Sombra’s red horn (and the rest of his body in point of fact) is the result of corruption via dark magic, Twilight’s horn was simply over-heated.

I still find it a bit weird she can do dark magic from just watching celestia do it for 5 seconds. In fact when I saw that I said out loud that this will fuck with fan fiction authors.

It was just a cool little effect used to pace the scene and divert attention from the more exciting elements (because of the younger audience).
