Wow, I’ve really been put in my place now.

Maybe you should shut up.It’s certainly not my fault you can’t handle hearing a logical critique.
Background Pony #47BB
Are you completely forgetting that they lost control of the tornado in Hurricane Fluttershy? Selective memory at work I guess.

As pointless as it is to respond to a Background Pony 4 hours later, I want people to know that the tornadoes in Swarm of the Century and Hurricane Fluttershy were both well crafted controlled tornadoes. Rainbow dash didn’t push the other Pegasus’ to make another hurricane. In fact they were right behind Rainbow Dash in making another one. The tornado in Wonderbolt Academy wasn’t controlled and Lightning Dust was the one leading it. If RD was the leader she would have most like made tornadoes equivalent to the one in Swarm.

The trouble with that is, it’s extremely hard to admit you were wrong in front of a group, especially with your peer standing there talking to you like you’re a child. You could see it in LD’s expressions, she switched over into save face mode when Dash was laying into her. And she never actually said that she didn’t care, she simply pointed to the fact that the Wonderbolts had encouraged her to push the boundaries, and that was true.

It was still reckless, but Dash was just as much at fault as she was, and LD was never given a chance to adjust her attitude.

With Lightning Dust, it wasn’t so much about the tornado as it was her blasé attitude about nearly hurting (or even killing) her fellow cadets. I figure if she was sufficiently contrite about her actions, it wouldn’t be as a big a deal.

I say probably a lot because I don’t know most of the stuff about flight.

And she has changed, it’s called character development. She’s starting to care more about others, like in Sleeplees in Ponyville.

They didn’t boot her out right away, it obviously took Dash a fair amount of time to get her stuff and be ready to leave after she left Spitfire’s office. So there was plenty of time for them to look into the matter.

And I’ll let Dr. Outback or someone else argue with you now, I’m going to bed I think.

Ciao.

Your post sure says “probably” a lot. Know why? Because a good chunk of all of that is just wishful thinking. You’re willing to justify everything Rainbow Dash has ever done while condemning Lightning Dust for virtually identical actions. Did Twilight not warn Rainbow that someone could get hurt in Hurricane Fluttershy? And yet Rainbow ignored her, for selfish reasons. Despite that, she had the gall to take LD to task in front of everyone for a very similar circumstance.

Did Rainbow not intentionally allow ponies to remain danger in the Mysterious Mare Do Well, just so she could sign a few more autographs? And yet she showed zero understanding to LD, even as she was being kicked out right in front of her.

None of Dust’s superiors ever even told her what she was doing was wrong. They just booted her based on Dash’s moaning.

Yes someone was forcing her to do that. In case you forgot they team members had to stay with each other or they would be disqualified.
And Dust should have made sure Dash could have followed her. When you’re flying with a partner I assume you have to take consideration for their flying pattern/aerodynamic/other technical stuff. She couldn’t have squeezed in their with her on such short notice, they were going very fast.

As for the other two tornadoes, the first was smaller and the second one had her using a lot more pegasi to help her. The bigger a tornado is the harder it is to control without other pegasi to assist you. Presumably it takes more of them to keep it corralled or whatever.
And as far as not letting them get a break, I think she told all of them before hand that this was going to be tough. It’s probably why she thought Thunderlane was absent, it was going to be tough.
Lightning probably made the twister far bigger than the two of them could handle, Dash was probably thinking it would be a far smaller one, like the one in Swarm of The Century. Lightning grossly overestimated the skill of her compatriot, and it cost her. If she wants to join a team she needs to be a team player, and she failed to show those qualities. She only cares about herself.

I’ll give you Hearth’s Warming Eve, but Wonderbolt Academy was just terrible.

Was anyone FORCING Dash to do that difficult maneuver with the branch? Absolutely not, but she acted like a child about it. Lightning Dust thought that Dash was good enough to handle it, and honestly she should have been able to. She’s done far harder things, after all.

And again, is this the same Dash who carelessly made a tornado to get rid of Parasprites? Who endangered her fellow pegusi by being stubborn in Hurricane Fluttershy? She wouldn’t even give them a five minute rest for crying out loud. And she willingly went along with the tornado idea in Wonderbolt Academy, which makes her just as much at fault as LD. She got mad because the other five showed up out of nowhere and almost got hurt, but they shouldn’t have even been there. And being mad about it CERTAINLY doesn’t excuse her role in making that stupid twister!

But she didn’t even get a slap on the hoof. In fact, she got promoted, whereas LD was shamed and kicked out without so much as a reprimand.

That episode is a mess.

Twilight was only insane in lesson zero, the other times it has been for actually good reasons. Like having Celestia summon her for a test.

That’s called character development, she’s acting less bitchy, with that episode being a prime example. She couldn’t rightly get in past those logs when she didn’t know where lightning was going to be relative to her. It was Lightning’s poor leadership skills that are to be blamed.

Pinkie did cry, right when she went all flat haired.

About Fluttershy, these episodes aren’t truly meant to be viewed in succession. They might be out of line in terms of timeline placement. I’m sure there was an episode in S2 where Rarity was talking about the Gala, despite the fact that at that point in time (relative to other episodes) it was nearly a year away. It’s more likely that that episode took place before the end of season one, and Stare Master most likely took place after Putting Your Hoof down.

Rarity most likely appeared that way through Spike’s eyes. He most likely exaggerated how she looked at that moment in Secret of My Excess.

People think AJ is boring because she has not character flaws it seems. But she was the first one to over come them, as seen in Super Speedy Cider Squeezy compare to Apple Bucking Season(I think, not sure).

And Merriweather wrote Heart’s Warming Eve, IIRC. So that’s one thing going for her, along with Wonderbolts Academy.
Background Pony #47BB
Well, if you all are quite done with the self-congratulations.

All of that sounds like a lot of the same old brush offs I’m always hearing, but I just don’t buy it any more.

I can believe Twilight being a little obsessive and freaked out, but they threw subtlety out the window and made her outright insane.

Rainbow Dash had the nerve to complain about a dumb tornado, when she’s endangered others several times before with that very thing. And she even whined about hurting her wing, which was her own dumb fault. Yes, I call that hypocrisy and being a baby.

Pinkie has NOT always been outrageously clingy and emotional. In Party of One, she didn’t cry even once; think about that.

Fluttershy hasn’t been progressing to being more assertive, she was plenty assertive already. She told Photo Finish without a second thought that she was quitting, and she stared death right in the face with that cockatrice. All she’s becoming is a lot less cute.

Rarity has always had a dramatic flare, sure, but she wasn’t spiteful. These days, she’s been routinely manipulative and rather self-centered, all played for laughs of course. Her portrayal hasn’t been quite as bad as the others though, admittedly.

And AJ has plenty going for her. She’s spunky, wry, intelligent, a little proud, compassionate, hard-working, honest, caring, and overall a good friend. What more could people want from her? She has a rich personality with more strengths than faults, I fail to see how that’s “boring”.

Anyway, I’m not saying all of this to point out how great Applejack is, I’m saying it because I’m disappointed in the way the writing is going these days. Especially Merriwether Williams, they need to hurry up and fire her already.

  1. Rainbow Dash had every right for her complaints in that episode
  2. Twilight has been always over prepared and orderly. the reason she freaks out is because she doesn’t want to disappoint the princess.
  3. Pinkie always like this. Sometimes it is more extreme at times than others. I wouldn’t call it brainless just a little oblivious
  4. Fluttershy is progressing to being more assertive. Remember how hilariously timid she was in S1
  5. I think your confusing vain and petty with dramaqueen
  6. People think applejack is boring isn’t because she is consistant. It’s because she doesn’t have much going for her beside being the honest hard working gal that has family pride.

Rainbow Dash… HYPOCRITICAL CRYBABY!?! You think having priorities is being a hypocrite? I don’t think you know the meaning of that word. And if actually caring for others i being a crybaby… then I think you have the wrong idea about who she’s supposed to be.

Twilight has become kinda flanderized in that aspect.

Pinkie is Random, it’s in her character to not be consistent.

Fluttershy has anxiety and junk, so she’s naturally kinda mental at times.

Rarity does act vain, but i think she acts good when and where it counts.

And yes, Applejack is best pony in those regards.
Background Pony #47BB
Rainbow Dash turned into a hypocritical crybaby in Wonderbolt Academy.

Twilight turned into a neurotic obsessor in Lesson Zero.

Pinkie fluctuates from silly and random to needy and brainless.

Fluttershy rides all kinds of waves from assertive to timid, from fearful to brave.

Rarity frequently goes from responsible and controlled to vain and petty.

And Applejack… is quite simply the most consistently written character in the show, Which is why people call her boring (which is completely insane).

I could go on with example after example of how their personalities have been either exaggerated or simply altered suddenly without reason, starting with season two and ramping up in season three.

What?
Not true, all the episodes so far have given them very consistent characterization.
To Many Pinkie Pies showed that Pinkie cares more about her friends than having fun.
Wonderbolts Academy showed that Dash is more than just her dreams.

Presumably Apple Family Reunion will give AJ the same treatment.

Not sure if they others will get the treatment too.
