I can see an episode where Twilight tries to achieve just that. She is treated differently by the citizens of Ponyville/her friends and shows everypony that she is still the same Twilight.
Besides, she was always a VIP living in the libary. Element of Magic, sister to a prince, long time student of the eternal ruler of the sun…
Twily isn’t going anywhere. I would bet money on it. Here’s how I’m pretty sure things are going to go down (and obviously this is totally hypothetical):
Yes, she’s a princess now, but a princess of what? This is important. Celestia rules the day, Luna rules the night, Cadance rules Equestria Junior. What does Twilight Sparkle rule over? The most likely answer is what’s written on her butt: magic. She got to be princess by discovering new magic, so her job as princess will probably be to keep doing that.
And how’s she supposed to discover that new magic? That answer’s in the name of the show: friendship is magic. It’s not just a clever phrase. It’s a law of nature in the show’s setting. By staying in Ponyville and continuing to develop her relationships with the rest of the cast, she’ll be inspired to write new spells as she was in MMC.
Bottom line, by the end of the S4 premiere, the pre-MMC status quo is mostly intact. The only differences are that Twilight has wings and earth pony bits, her studies have advanced beyond Celestia’s ability to provide guidance, and maybe, maybe Sunset Shimmer joins the Mane 6 (and Spike!).

This part is unique. All the masquerade ponies share the bit about the special celebration, but Sunset’s special line is about faraway adventures. Interesting.
Ah, yeah, I didn’t mean main-main, I just meant “in the main six”.
I doubt that Sunset will be THE main character, however I think she could be a new main character to help round out the cast since Twilight will be spend a lot of time in other places fulfilling her duty as princess.
My guess is that Twilight will move to the Crystal Empire since that’s where her family is, unless of course something is going to happen to Celestia and Twilight has to go to Canterlot to take her place.
Skyla is horrible and I agree with you on that.
Sunset Shimmer, IMO, looks tolerable. I like her design and I’m looking forward to seeing her in S04. Though, I would like it as much as anyone else that Hasbro make toys based on the show, originals. Not all “toy ponies” that make it into the show are failures. Remember Blossomforth? Remember how much love she got during the airing of Hurricane Fluttershy?

I pretty much see why people would compare the pony fandom to Sonic’s fanbase now.
The fandom will bitch either way, so it doesn’t matter. Even if they got everything they wanted, they would bitch.
But the suits’ idea of what would make the show better is, in all likelihood, much different than what the fandom thinks would make the show better.
They’ve already said she’s staying in Ponyville.
(Actually, artists like Price say their are differences in the eyes that would make them more challenging to recognize were one to wear a mask… Although, there’s the mane and coat color and cutie mark thing… Doing something like Mare-Do-Well might be the only way to protect one’s identity. :| )
She would be a nice replacement, I really like her design afterall.
Some people would bitch about it, but that is pretty much the most sure-fire way to put an end to the alicorn drama once and for all.
I’m pretty sure Twilicorn is permanant though, and that Sunset Shimmer will be her replacement in the mane 6.
They already said she wasn’t going away.

They’d only do that if they felt like they absolutely just couldn’t work with her like that. They seem to be confident in what they’re doing, though.
Despite what some people hypothesize about, there are higher-ups at Hasbro that genuinely enjoy the show and want it to be the best it can be.

I know she might look like a Twilight replacement or a mane 6 add-on but I doubt they would change the flow of the series that much.
Be a dick move if the next 2-parter will cause Twilight to give away her alicorn status to Sunset and then make everything as it was before.
I’m hoping she’s a toy exclusive. Like Skyla.
