Yeah, I tend not to bring up religion much around the internet due to everyone getting irritated with the subject; I have successfully talked with a few people, but online I just try to be a nice (if somewhat snarky) guy and leave the religion part out of it unless a discussion is brought up (such as this post).
 
As for the comment about bronies promoting the fandom: I viewed it originally as similar to people trying to convert me to another religion due to how… forceful (for lack of a better word) they were in trying to get me to watch it. Curiosity and a few people with high, but not extreme or fanatical, interest in the show is what got me to watch it, as well as what has allowed me to talk to people about religion.

On the one hand, if you’re Lutheran (I’m LCMS myself) and really believe, according to your faith, anyone you can’t convince is likely to spend eternity suffering. You WANT to help them avoid that kind of fate. (It helps that the most likely answer to “your religion is wrong” is “all religions are wrong. when you die, thats it” so its not like having faith is going to make things worse for you.) The thing is, you can’t just force people to believe. Most people will go “ugh, stop that” and become increasingly resistant to the idea. (Bronies could use a lesson in this too when it comes to promoting the fandom.)

I think it depends where a church is located and what the ideals of people around the area are. The church I go to is focused on a combination of outreach and bible-based sermons and group study, fitting due to it being a suburban area and thus quieter and/or more close community-focused, where as some areas can also be more militant or aggressive. A pastor has a lot of influence on the ideas of the church, as well, so maybe some pastors that are more fire-and-brimstone are more towards fighting others because they believe they’ll go to hell if they don’t, but it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

I don’t even like religion much.  
I still like it, but not a lot since most wars start because of religion.

If anything, it’s more a cult. Which partially scares me. I won’t deny it’s done some good to the people involved and as a whole from the reports of charity auctions and donations and such, but calling it a ‘religion’ - coming from a practicing Lutheran - is on the side of blasphemous.

Does this me we qualify for tax reliefs?
