This is based on a pretty disturbing fic. If I’m not mistaken, that is actually Nightmare Moon making Twilight believe that she is actually Celestia. (I’m pretty sure there was a link to the fic in the description of the image when it was uploaded before.)
@Background Pony
Good point.
But in this story, I don’t think there is anyone who “ends up fine”.
You can almost say that the downer ending is (literally) universal.
Anyone has the right to do what they want, but that does not mean that others have to like it/accept it.
He wrote the ending he wanted and good for him, people will always want to change this or that and more then once did i see people changing their endings from what they wanted to what others wanted. And failing because each wanted the “same” but different details.
Still i like when there is alternate endings where people can pick what one they want, easy to do for stories you wont continue to build on like in this ones case. But again up to the author.
And a happy ending doesnt need to be happy for us and all fine (we know some of the mane 6 died if i remember right), but i just hate the all to common “NNM is OP as fuck and wins without even having a fight”.
I hate it simply based on things like NMM being frozen or such for 1000 years while Celestia had time to prepare and such. And we dont even know if they fought at all (i assume that was Celestias backup plan, killing Luna if Twilight cant fix her).
That depends highly on what characters you like. I find that my favourite ones more often than not are killed off, humiliated and/or driven to misery at some point just to “prove” that the story is serious.
Yes, sure, Twilight or Rainbow or whatever main character was the protagonist (if not all of them) end up fine, but if there was a fleshed-out secondary in the mix, chances are they got screwed over badly.
@d715
To be perfectly fair, the ending to a story should be the one factor the author should have the right to decide himself (you know, if not any other thing).
@Background Pony
they’re no problem with a sad ending the problem is dude didn’t work for it, it doesn’t feel like it happen naturally, it just happen because the writer wanted a sad ending
Good gracious guys, what is it with your constant obession with happy endings?
If this story really has a love/hate factor, then I personally love it. The ending was, warts and all, very powerful and convincing. Vimbert took a sad ending to a sad story, and he went with it all the way, milking it for all it was worth. It fit seamlessly with the story’s dark premise…
As a matter of fact, a happy ending would have felt a little awkward, especially after the other mane charcters’ fates are revealed.
In my honest opinion, we have too few downer endings in our fandom. So, this one was actually rather refreshing.
I cannot believe that some people feel like their time was wasted, just because of the ending. It may have been harsh, but still sating.
Its not world shattering new, but i honestly expected Vimbert to make it a happy ending, so he surprised me. thats why props not for “omg its so new and never seen before”.
everyone and their dog things “props for not making a happy end” is new and edgy while its pretty much done to death just as much as “and they lived happily ever after”
a downer ending isn’t new or automatic make it a good ending
@Arzoo
I don’t have a mind control fetish and I enjoy the story…/hated. Seriously I have conflicting feelings about the whole thing. It is really well written and enjoy the dark theme. But shivers that ending.
It was a creepy story. Nightmare Moon wins, and tries to turn Twilight into her minion via magic, replacing her memories and such. Well written, but the end was a bit unsatisfying. If you have a mind control fetish it’s hot, otherwise it’s very disturbing at times.
@Evowizard25
Is only a scene… inside Twilight’s head… with herself. It was literal mind fuck. PG-13 Mind fuck. Not really that bad just a little confusing.
I love/hate that fanfic!
Is the best/most horrible thing I have ever read.
I like/was confuse by the lesbian bit

Wait…Moonlestia?

Eh i went on a rant here, enough for today xD.

Don’t take me wrong. The story is still one of my favorites.

Yeah last time I check normally those kinda of things in the end left only hate
ie every David Cage “game”
Its not world shattering new, but i honestly expected Vimbert to make it a happy ending, so he surprised me. thats why props not for “omg its so new and never seen before”.
The author told me that that’s exactly want he wanted. For people to love/hate it. So yeah mission accomplish.
That’s the problem
everyone and their dog things “props for not making a happy end” is new and edgy while its pretty much done to death just as much as “and they lived happily ever after”

Its good how it is but yeah, made me feel like shit. You keep expecting a happy end then boom bittersweet bad end.
Still props for not making a happy end, but could use a alternate ending thats happy if nothing else. :(
because the whole point of a dark theme is to make the happy end shine brighter
a downer ending just makes you feel like you wasted an hour of your life, not helped by up copped out the ending it

Huh? {Not a fan of lesbian stuff myself, but was it bad?}
