>where many Sonic fans would just shrug there shoulders at stupid things, and ignore games like sonic 2006 in favor of the good ones.
The Sonic fanbase you’re familiar with is a hell of a lot different from the one I know.
They’re reason I can’t stand nostalgiabrats.
Well, I guess the Pokemon and Dragon Quest fandoms don’t have to worry about straw feminists invading.
But honestly, none of the drama I’ve seen here has phased me anymore than the crap in the Pokemon fandom.
Every fandom has at least a BIT of this, but we seem to have peeps more prone to overacting. I suppose part of it is the amount of passion people devote to the show and online, where many Sonic fans would just shrug there shoulders at stupid things, and ignore games like sonic 2006 in favor of the good ones.
I do find it kind of puzzling but eh. I guess the immersive element of the show is a blessing and a curse.
We ARE as bad as the sonic fandom at this point.
Only with stupid SJWs thrown in.
My other two are the Pokemon and Dragon Quest fandoms with Pokemon being the more drama intense one. The Dragon Quest fandom is pretty mellow on average, with really the only drama coming from whether or not we’re getting the next games.
I’ve been part of the Teen Titans fandom, and I’m an ex-member of the Sonic fandom.
The former wasn’t so bad; even though the shipping wars did get annoying, especially when Terra showed up in season two. But no matter how bad it got, it never got anywhere near as bad as the Avatar fandom’s shipping wars. With the existence of Teen Titans Go!, I can only imagine the amount of butthurt going on because of the show being revived as a straight-up comedy.
As for the latter, it can kiss the darkest part of my black–er, you get the picture. I’ve mentioned before that I’ve seen some sick stuff during my time in the Sonic fandom and it desensitized me to a good portion of the internet. But the final straw was seeing the blind loyalty of idiotic Sonic fans, who constantly bitch and complain about Sonic, despite purchasing any garbage that has his mug on it! Thankfully, Sega and Sonic Team are putting far more effort into the recent Sonic titles, but many of the fans are so far gone that it wouldn’t even matter, anyway.
To be perfectly honest, I’ve never really been afraid of the brony fandom dying. Judging by the way MLP exploded in popularity, plus the many reasons why the show attracts so many of us, I highly doubt will ever happen. I’m actually MORE afraid of the brony fandom becoming more like the Sonic fandom. I see so many bronies whining about the amount of pandering in FiM, but it doesn’t have to be a bad thing! At least we’re part of a fandom, where the franchise is actually acknowledging our existence! Aside from upping the quality of their games, Sega and Sonic Team doesn’t give even HALF the amount of shits about the Sonic fans!
Being apart of two other fandoms(One big, one small) prior to this, I tend to not be surprised by drama/arguments that happen. It’s nothing anymore intense than anything else I’ve saw.
+1
“Hello Pot. I’ve got something I’ve wanted to say to you all day” Replied Kettle with a mischievous smirk.
“Oh? What’s that?”
“I just came over to say you’re black”
“Oh, yeah? Well, your wife doesn’t seem to be complaining”
“Yes, it is.”
lol this guy.
Yeeeeaaaah… We bronies really aren’t that much different from any other fandom out there, which really isn’t so bad. The only reason people think the brony fandom is in danger of dying out is simple…
When we all discovered MLP:FiM, we got into it because it was a smart, wildly entertaining show, with loveable characters, great moral messages, and a world that is just RICH with storytelling potential!
On top of that, it’s so innocent it makes the most harmless Disney production seem like PG-13!
However, with the birth of the brony fandom, also came the Rule 34 fan art, the grimdark fanfics, and the drama. These things are–by NO means–unique to bronies, as they have existed in every other fanbase that has preceded us! MLP is no different, as it is just as easy of a target as any other franchise out there! The only reason many bronies get so up in arms about is because the very idea of such a well-made, yet innocent show being tainted in any way, is pretty unnerving.
I’ll admit, when I first decided to see what all the fuss was about, nearly three years ago, I was very, VERY disgusted by the fact that the brony fandom had any sort of dark side, which would taint my view of the show. As time went on, however, I began to realize that the brony fandom isn’t anything special (except for having some super-creative and talented people); we’re just as flawed and fallible as the next fanboy.
It’s very surprising how many people think that the mlp fandom is the only fandom that overreacts and does negative things.
It’s like most fans have never been in a fandom before!
Actually, Bronies have been pretty benign as far as drama for me. Most get over it fairly quickly except for some odd grudgey finnickers that are in the minority.
Then again, I guess I can’t speak so much as the fandoms I used to be in are… worse
Shuddering
That’s not what anyone hear said. You are fighting a battle against the ghost of your own preconceptions. Have fun with that.
Yeah, THIS.
