Blue Dog Democrats are moderate-to-conservative Democrats who are willing to break from the party line on certain things, particularly stuff like abortion, gun control, LGBTQ rights, etc. They've gotten much rarer in the past 15 years, but some still get elected sometimes.

They're named for the Blue Dog Coaucuslition that was formed by conservative Democrats in the House in 1995 in response to the GOP landslide in the 1994 midterms. Tellingly, within two election cycles many of the founding members had switched to the Republican Party, particularly those holding seats in the Deep South. The last founding member in office was Collin Peterson of Minnesota, who was ousted in 2020.
