There’s still a gap between the saving of the Empire and Cadance’s official assigning. You know, the restructuring period, and the feelings of becoming an official ruler of your own domain? Everyone seems to forget the in-betweens of events.

Why would that make a more fit princess?  
Why does that “follow her heart” line reek of a phoned-in storyline?

The crystal heart spell? The crystal heart already have a great power keeping the crystal empire city safe from evil and warm in the middle of the arctic, but maybe this spell have nothing to do with it despite the name.
