Needs to know Hebrew.
The Bible is not “child friendly” by modern definitions at all, and I’m perfectly fine with that, but I’m not really sure how I might try explaining things to kids without going into explicit detail (which I’m reluctant to do in the first place.)
I forget where, but when God says people “play/played/are playing the whore to other gods,” or refers to “temple prostitute,” it’s supposed to refer to an ancient practice by other cultures (Egypt supposedly being one) where it was required by law for every woman to spend time in the temple until some random guy decided to fuck her. Thus would the law be fulfilled, and it could possibly take years before it was fulfilled. Or I guess she could have walked away and went off to Israel, if she knew about it and decided to leave her family and whole life behind.
Besides that, let’s go back a ways. In Genesis, it’s well known that in Chapter 19, after Sodom and Gomorrah and the other 3 cities are obliterated, Lot’s daughters get their Dad drunk on wine, then they rape their own Father and have kids by him.
But did you think for a moment that nearly the same thing happened earlier in Genesis to Noah’s wife? I was so confused when I read that; why did Noah say “Cursed be Canaan,” when Canaan wasn’t even born yet? The only answer I found was that 1: Noah and his wife were drunk from wine, then 2: their son Ham “saw Noah naked in the tent,” but “seeing nakedness” is supposed to be an old term for ”having sexual relations with.“ And since Noah is saying “Cursed be Canaan” instead of “Cursed be Ham,” what else is there to infer but that Ham impregnated his Mom?
Oh, and we can’t forget Ezekiel 23:20 either. ”She lusted after her lovers, whose members were like that of donkeys, and emissions like that of horses.“
Lastly, I vaguely remember a woman acting like a whore in Genesis just so she could have kids. I forgot where exactly it is, though.
