Alternate from the accepted norm of what they look like.

How are these alternate designs? Wasn’t the point of their physical description to be vague so the reader could think of how they look?

Well the others are a little different Velvet usually has longer hair and Calamity doesn’t usually have such kept hair it’s usually closer to Rainbows and homages hair is completely different from her usual hair and the only difference on Pip is the color.
 
Artist creative freedom and all that and it’s nice to see things changed up sometimes.

I know, my point was that they’re all recognizable except her in this picture, since the artist went way off the popular design for her (even though they kept the popular design for everypony else).

I am well aware of the story behind her look, thank you very much.  
What I am saying is, Pip has no official look, so we all don’t know what she looks like.  
I am saying this because someone asked why pip looked completely different than the other artwork of her.  
You want grey body and brown mane Pip? More power to you. I was only answering a question.

Such a thing would be not safe to assume at all actually.  
And it seems you don’t know the story behind that look.
 
It was created by JohnJoseco when he made one of the first FOE fanarts, back in 2011. >>1382  
Everybody else just copied the design.  
And of course (as it goes with fandom things) by now it has become recognizable and inseperable, but Kkat made it quite clear that she had no official look. (JJ’s design does not even resemble the Vault Boy and in fact, it kinda conflicts with how Kkat tied her to AJ’s ancestry - it is an original creation.)

Yeah, unless Kkat creates their own design. She looks nothing like the fan art because there is no official design for her.
