Even worse, actually, they could have limited how much one pig pony could buy at a time right from the start. Of course, this is where the fact that this is a kids program shows the most. Many eiposodes would have turned out different if somepony had acted smarter. I’d go back to at least episode five, where Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash forget their own moral of not pulling pranks on people who wouldn’t find them funny (and if Gilda did just have very bad luck, a party situation means that they would have no way to make sure that the “do not prank” list could be controlled).

I think you have that backwards: Flim and Flam were always out to drive the Apple family out of business so they could have it all to themselves.

They didn’t initially. Their original cider was as good as what the Apples were selling. If the Apples had worked with them rather than trying to drive them off, they could’ve had both, and everypony would have profited.

Well, the SSCS6K did really botch that message though by showing the Apples failing to meet customer demand and even try to negotiate a reasonable deal with the Brothers F&F. Honestly, they were more of the antagonists in that episode than the carnies.

The series has had quite a few episodes with an anti-dehumanization (make up your own pony pun) theme: The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, Rarity Takes Manehattan, Canterlot Boutique, even Apple Family Reunion to the extent that its message is that special memories can’t be regimented.
