I never implied you were good at talking with others outside of your group. I had said so because I’m used to the majority of people outside of wherever I come from being complete idiots. Sorry; you don’t seem so bad. I assumed the infographic would be enough, and I’m fully aware that that cannot encompass every idea just like the right versus left paradigm, but for beginners it seems to help.
God bless, fam

>Thinking a pre-made flow chart can encompasse all possible existential philosophies and outlooks on life, the meaning of it, and the nature of existence.

I post here sometimes about this kind of thing.

I think I come closest to being called an “agnostic theist”? I see qualia and the mind-body problem as proof that materialism cannot be a complete description of reality, therefore a metaphysical realm must exist in addition to the physical universe, since no appeal to the physical universe would ever lead to the conclusion of the existence of qualia. You would get increasingly complex philosophical zombies, (most easily understood through the Chinese Room ) but no appeal to physical reality would ever lead you to conclude in the existence of qualia, and IMO, the Chinese Room proves this.

Therefore, I think that there is a metaphysical reality, and the most coherent, logical, consistent one that is most consistent with my experience of reality and that “tastes” the truest (a taste gained from studying theoretical physics for a number of years - I’m coming into Junior year undergrad in physics, though most of my studies have actually been extracirricular to the point that I’m doing undergrad research in general relativity - a topic normally postgraduate) is the metaphysics described by the Mormon church’s “deeper” doctrines regarding eternal, immutable laws and the nature of godhood and our fundamental being and the sort. It’s really vastly different from most Christian sects due to the rejection of the Nicene Creed, which just about every other Christian denomination accepts.

So I guess that chart would want to place me in religious? But at the same time, I think of faith in a completely different way to where most people would say I don’t have it. Most Mormons don’t even know it, but the “faith” the Mormon church teaches its members isn’t entirely belief without evidence. It’s some combination of trust and what you think because of evidence. This scripture describes it best, literally placing it on a sliding scale with “knowledge.”

On a somewhat related note, one of my favorite bits ever is Einstein’s parable of the library. Some-odd 85 years later of advances in technology and theoretical physics and I think his parable rings just as true as ever, to anyone who’s really studied physics hard. Especially when you start to realize that physics only meddles with material reality, but is completely incapable of dealing with philosophical questions, hence different interpretations of theories being prominent (Lorentzian ether and block universe are two examples for special relativity. Copenhagen and Everett Many-Worlds are two oft-discussed interpretations of quantum mechanics. The reason these are interpretations instead of theories in themselves, is because they don’t actually alter the results of any experiment at all, they merely interpret the workings of the theory in a different way, and are therefore, not independent theories in physics, since physics is an empirical field that only investigates tangible, testable theories).

The lesson at the end of the day, is even physics sheds some extra light on existential questions, but even it can’t really answer the questions entirely. It merely constructs abstract sets of instructions which you can use to predict results in the physical world. How you interpret what those instructions mean remains philosophy.

So, yeah.

I admit I haven’t read a whole lot on philosophy because it’s not testable, therefore becomes something of a popularity contest of ideas rather than something that can really hone in on the nature of reality. But with how much I’ve quoted philosophical concepts, I probably should read some.

…So, yeah, again. When I said “years and years ago,” I meant I’m not new to existential questions. Been looking into them a fair bit :P

General Relativity is really one of my favorite areas of physics because it comes freakishly close to being metaphysics, because it describes the very fabric of spacetime itself, rather than the interaction of materials within space and time.

Well, I was going to join the argument.
Trump is a sandwich that may or may not have shit in it, and I’d rather take that over definite shit sandwiches.
>using shit-tier articles from biased sites
>not just looking for things yourself
Lazy!
Of course they’re going to dismiss the articles, silly! The Mainstream Media isn’t called “der Lügenpresse” (lying press) for nothing! I bet you even think Bashar al-Assad (AKA the Lion of Damascus) is a bad guy.
The Zionists, and banking elite killed the National Socialists.
Cirrus, are you having an existential crisis? I’ve got over a gig of books…. Here, I’ll post an infographic to get you started:

Also, do any of you like General Patton?

I’m not trying to be dismissive: I just didn’t have anything more to say, plus I didn’t want to get into a heated argument on the Internet. I’m sorry if it came off that way, however.

@Cirrus Light
Oh…well, I’m sorry to hear things aren’t going well for you right now.

Don’t get too upset over it. It’s hearsay and I may be remembering wrong. But again, on an unrelated note one of my lifelong dreams may be crashing and burning in front of me, so I’m feeling somewhat nihilistic and not caring enough to check right now.

@Crystal Neighybánya
^ Hence my not reading your sources. It’s personal on my end. Like, not my personal issue with you, but my personal issue with me.

Dear celestia that’s a break-up line, lol.

But anyways, that article said “pony-up.” Heheh.
