I’m not a fan of the giant ears except on younger Twilight, they’re adorable there.

The-Orator (sometimes known as Puzzle-of-Life or WhirlyWillow) got around the unicorn problem by using her own creation: The Magician’s Mark. It’s a small tattoo-like marking underneath one eye. Pegasi have wings on the backs, like angels, but are too small to physically fly. Rather, they are the source of pegasus magic, and allows them to “fly” (actually float/levitate) by flapping them.

If the ears were just pointed it’d be fine, but two inch long floppy absurdities are just silly.

I can really get behind the idea of Unicorns being portrayed as elves. Both have the cache of being intensely magical creatures, and it just sort of clicks for me.

The new hair is better though.

I don’t dig those ears. At all. They just look really out of place.

I’d actually say the opposite. Ears don’t really have the same symbolism, and depending on how much of the horn mechanics you want to use, don’t really fit as well. While the horn auras aren’t actually visible to the characters, having the ears light up doesn’t really have the same effect, either. If the ears don’t have anything to do with the ability to use magic, then why give them elf ears?
 
The other thing is, that means that they have a different body part, which kinda makes them look like a different species in a way that simply having an extra body part doesn’t. The ponies are all the same species, so humanized ponies should only have human levels of difference.
 
Either go with a horn or make them look the same as the other two tribes.
 
I have a feeling that the humanized pegasi are going to have either permanent or temporary wings, in which case you might as well just make the horn disappear when not in use.
 
(I also think that long, floppy ears look goofy on a human, but that’s not really what’s at issue here.)

I love elves, if only in the curvy forms or the quirky! That or if they can help me with homework.
