A tenor trumpet would be more like a valve trombone. Flugels are still soprano instruments, although the deeper mouthpiece allows playing extended low ranges like on actual low brass, which, combined with a similar high range to the trumpet, makes it one of the most versatile instruments there is. Actual flugelhorns sound more like a halfway point between the trumpet and the mellophone.
And I don’t think the Flugelhorn was limited to just the Crystal Kingdom; it could’ve been around in other parts of the world during the time Pinkie’s been alive.
