Well all he needs to do is turn back into rarity and impersonate her. The real rarity might even approve Because it’ll get spike off her back(and she could extort him into being a babysitter for sweetie), she might even help thorax perfect his/her with their imitation by helping them nail her personality and mannerisms.

I could see this as him wanting to practice pouring out his emotions to Rarity but practicing with Thorax.
 
Then it ends up happening that Thorax can’t NOT love Spike’s raw love and passion and he starts pining for the cute little dragon.
