anyways to care about somepony is to care about them. How does drawing a sexual or suggestive image show this? Unless its the aforementioned “oc hugging or blah blah blah insert char here” i don’t see how a sexual picture may it be suggestive, questionable or explicit show you care.

And this is a huge part of the problem I got with that notion: it’s about feelings and not facts.  
The fact of the matter is: the reason we draw stuff like this is because we’ve already got drawn in (pun intended) by the multicolored mares and stallions, all with intresting characters and stories to book.  
We tend to see ourself in these characters, we see character attribuites that we would look for in a partner in a relationship.  
Sexual attraction comes after the other kind of attraction.  
The kind that wakes your intrest in the show and its characters.  
Same that goes for ponies goes double so for actual human beings.  
And around comes a person who shouts “stop using your male gaze, objectifying this poor woman”  
And I’m like “I ain’t no Wizard nor Witcher, the worst I can do is look at you very cross-  
eyed.”

It feels that way though with the constant porn and fetishes being put up. It FEELS like people just enjoy gawking over them with sexy pictures and other things. Im not saying everyone does this but it gives off that vibe. Something like a hug or kiss or sex pic is different as you use your OC to express your love towards them/attraction.
 
Anyways as i said it just FEELS like most people here just like to see them being screwed. Honestly these “lesbian” pics don’t help either with your case. I have nothing against a lesbian or gay person but hot damn it’s like all it takes is someone saying hi and suddenly they need to kiss and have sex with that other person.

What’s the deal with claiming that we turn characters into objects when we find them attractive?

Please, A nut and bolt is a sex object, as a metaphor. Nut (symbolic of a vagina) Bolt (phallic symbol), meet together and screw (sex happens). We even make sex objects of dead people. But yes, if you have sexual reproductive organs, then you are a sex object however willingly or unwillingly.
