Which is indeed more impressive than removing the ball during the shuffle. But the fact that there was a ball under each cup was revealed as the “flub the trick” part of the montage’s pattern.

She’s doing a magic trick, not gambling. The reason the cups are different patterns is so that the audience knows which cup their ball is supposed to be under. She then moves the cups around and ‘magically’ the ball will move to a new cup. That’s why every cup has a ball.
