Yes, i am entitled to how I choose to spend my own money that I sacrificed my own time for. Tell me how the artist is entitled to MY money and then you’ll actually have a valid point~

But really, don’t bother replying, this argument is 7 months old; the hell are you doing bumping a convo like this?

I’m selfish because I’m doing a cost-benefit analysis on how to spend my money, that I made working my job, making my own living? Yeah sure, ok.

Fact of the matter is just because OP is ‘trying to make a living’ doesn’t entitle them to my money. If they are going to employ a pricing model as restrictive as this then it’s to be expected that some people are going to be suspicious or turned off because most people aren’t fortunate enough to rest on the laurels of their artistic talent.

If I’m selfish then you just have no clue whatsoever.

Exactly, money just complicates everything.

A lot of people like to hide behind the white-night response of “oh it’s just the artist trying to make a living” but fail to factor in that every single artist is trying to make a living and, going back to my slippery slope argument, that if every artist charged $20 a month just to view some smut pics then they’d theoretically be bankrupting their fanbase because every single fan has to financially support every single artist just to get the full product.

Putting the slippery slope away again, the “trying to make a living” response doesn’t hold up very well because it’s only taking the artist’s situation into account. It pays no mind to us, the fans, the ‘customers’, who now have to pay our hard earned money, that we made while making a living ourselves, to view a product that many other artists put out for free.

I’m not knocking the OP for their pricing model or any artist for that matter. If they think their art is good enough to charge a premium then more power to them, but they can’t not expect people like me to think “well it sucks I can’t get the full experience from this product. Sucks that I have to pay such a large amount for something I potentially might not even enjoy in comparison to how much it costs. I’ll just give that money to this other artist who kept the gates open whose art I know I enjoy because there’s less risk involved”.

again, re-read the sentence.

it’s no longer an issue of “just an artist trying to earn a living”

Instead of just having an artist trying to earn a living you now have an artist trying to make a living by selling directly to their fans, which turns the situation in an issue of economics and consumerism because they can get similar products elsewhere for free or less money.

I don’t know what’s confusing about that unless you’re purposefully choosing to ignore it.

Presumably the fact that people are paying for it.

Also I was simply pointing out the awkwardness of the way you worded that. That once you introduce money, it’s no longer about money.

and I want you to re-read the clarifyer in that sentence.

>Once you introduce money into the equation it’s no longer an issue of “just an artist trying to earn a living” it becomes an issue of economics and consumerism because with this kind of paywall we aren’t ’fans”, we are “customers”.

It becomes an issue of the artist trying to earn a living while the artist’s fans are now customers. The fans are no longer just supporting the artist because they enjoy their work, they now have to support the artist financially to get the full product.

So, with that being said and reiterating my previous point, What makes them think their art is special enough to lock it behind a paywall when there are other artists of equal skill and caliber that don’t have a paywall but still accept donations/commissions/patreon support?

On the flip-side through, there are plenty of talented artists that have patreons that still release their art for free. I’m more inclined to support that artist than one that locks an entire part of their art behind a paywall.

Putting aside my slippery slope argument from before, it raises the question: What makes them think their art is special enough to lock it behind a paywall when there are other artists of equal skill and caliber that don’t have a paywall but still accept donations/commissions/patreon support?

Once you introduce money into the equation it’s no longer an issue of “just an artist trying to earn a living” it becomes an issue of economics and consumerism because with this kind of paywall we aren’t ‘fans”, we are “customers”. We’re paying for a product, and following that logic if there’s a comparable product that isn’t as hard to acquire it’s more economical to consume that product instead and leave the other behind it’s paywall.
Background Pony #6336
We don’t have the right to get EVERYTHING we want, for FREE, ALL the time.

All artists have the right to earn a living.

Art is a product. It takes hard work. If we appreciate hard work, we should reward it.

If we stop supporting artists we like, they stop making art. Then everyone loses.

If you dislike / downvote an artist SOLELY because they’re trying to make money to support their career… then I don’t know what to tell ya.

90% of my Patreon’s content will come out as Pay What You Want art pack like this

https://vavacung.deviantart.com/gallery/61828407/Second-World-Adult-Content

An art pack that worth 3-4 months of my Patreon’s contents. More than 100 image in each pack. Which you can even get it for free by choose to pay 0 (And believe me. 90% of people choose to do it).

I offer that much for people outside of my Patreon. So, is it so wrong to keep just 10% of my contents as Patreon’s exclusive just to make my supporter/sponsor feel special? Because by making those art pack already to unfair for them now. What they paid $20 per month to see. Those in public can see it all by pay nothing!?

Slippery slope argument: Pretty soon every clop artist is going to lock their content behind a paywall to ‘‘pay their bills’, at that point it’s no longer satisfying to consume this type of content because you then have to pay for every artist you want to see.

Patreon is a nice way to offset costs but in a fandom as big as ours with as many talented artists locking their content behind paywalls it just becomes a burden on the fans.

if there were only 5 artists I liked and they were all charging $20 a month to see their porn, that’s $100 a month. I’d need to make a patreon just to afford to look at porn and that’s just a pain in the ass.
