I always assumed Celestia, & Luna were born alicorns, (which kinda sets them apart from Cadance & Twilight) so the idea of alicorns being “born” never seemed to strange to me. Only Twilight was shown to be turned into one, (before that, nobody even assumed ponies could become alicorns) and Cadance was only implied to of formally been a pegasis in a book. (Yet, was still shown to of been an alicorn as a teen pony in flashback.)
 
As for being “made to sell toys,” the same could be said of almost every other pony character, object, (the hot air balloon, the train, heck, even Lauren Faust’s designs of the Mane 6’s homes looked like they were made for playsets) or the entire show in general.  
(Fans often forget the whole show was always a toy commercial) And frankly, if that was the case, they could’ve just used the already established Princess Skyla from the toyline, rather then just make up a new character. That would’ve been more toy-etic, and having to redo toys for a new character, would’ve been too much trouble business-wise.
 
Still, even “toy commercials” can be good, and just ‘cause something is for sale, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it, or it can’t have depth, or heart & soul in it. Capitalism doesn’t equal “evil,” regardless what the media says. (The same media that capitalizes on stuff too.) As long as the show keeps making fun or deep episodes, I have no problem with the merch’, and to be quite frank, there hasn’t been that many toy tie-ins forced in the show lately sense the “Rainbow Power” toy tie-ins. (And even that was rather subtle, and their rainbow super forms were on screen very shortly.)
 
Not to mention characters like Sunset Shimmer were made just to sell a toy, (hence her heel face turn) and she’s still beloved by the fandom. She has more toys & merch’ then Flurry does ironically, so people who love characters like Sunset are not ones to bash characters like Flurry, or others for that reason, no offense anyone.

Hooonestly? The thought of alicorns being born threw off expectations I had, and made me grumpy. Like she was made to sell toys.
 
Then again, I am old enough to realise that when you have an idealised version of a TV show in your head (what most folks call a ‘headcanon’), you are basically setting yourself up to be disappointed. Even if a lot of modern TV sets itself up to be a factory for those.
 
Anyway, the fandom draws her so pretty – And I have a soft spot for royalty in general, so my hate for what the show did can’t really hold against all this.

I kinda prefer older Flurry pics where she has Twilight’s physical look, but this is very well drawn & adorable.

I still don’t get the hate over her honestly. She’s just a baby. (Was I the only one actually expecting Cadance to have an alicorn baby eventually? It’s not that unexpected, I mean she & Shining Armor were married quite awhile.)

For a second I thought that was Cadance, but Cadance has yellow stripes in her mane, not blue. Well done!
