Engineers and scientists both in all fiction seem prone to either brass balls bravery and sheer madness, like Cid from FF4, or comically sociopathic levels of ineptness, like Edgar Colthearts

…after finding herself in the future, Twilight didn’t know what to do – she didn’t know how to return to the past, or how to fulfill her predestination without her friends and Elements of Harmony, but at least she surely had to stop crying and get out of her room – that’s what Martina said  
She hadn’t any troubles finding the same language with Martina, a ginger unicorn mechanic appointed to look after Twilight. Martina specialized in sophisticated devices and was one of the best engineers of Violet Wing, so she surely had what to talk about with curious Twilight and Twi… Well, her magic has impressed all Violet Wing and pretty soon Twilight found herself helping rebels with restoring the Violet Wing labs. There were, of course, some ponies who weren’t very happy about losing nearly all the science personnel, but no one could say that the magical pony wasn’t any help for the rebels…
