Shipping is serious buisness to some people. I’ve seen shipping drama from the sidelines from multiple fandoms for many years. I never really got it then and I still don’t get it now sometimes. I just like shipping for fun.

I see. However, do not forget the fact that Flashimmer is one of the most underrated couples … It does not even reach 700. On the other hand look at Flashlight and Sunsetsparkle.

Uhm… your point? I mean, let’s see what happened: With the introduction of two new characters both strongly linked to Twilight and sharing a history together, three ships came into the play, and the fandom adopted them, and thus, to what extent they did work of them came to show their popularity.

And it’s really a surprise that Sunsetsparkle stands at the top (more so even when you consider that many pics tagged as “Flashlight” are likely screen caps, provided by canon, which means the amount of fan-work is less)? Here we got two characters, one being the protagonist of the show and the one with the most screen time and development (or her counterpart in that dimension), and the other is a mirror character that now stars the spin-off series, was built around to be a counterpart to Twilight, and has largely enjoyed the blessing of being one of the better written and thus, most well liked character in the fandom for a good while. And THEN we’ve got the third case, Flash Sentry, a character that was apparently designed with the intent of being as bland and cliched as possible, making him the most generic male love interest you could ask for, getting barely any screen time, and borderline no development whatsoever.

And taking that into account, when you look at the three ships between these three characters - Sunsetsparkle, Flashlight, and Flashimmer - is it really any surprise that the least popular ones are the ones involving the character that’s least interesting (not to mention largely disliked)?

Have they really been forgotten, though? I just made a little research, and Twinkie, Twijack, Twidash, Twishy, Rarilight, all but one have had fanart of them submitted to this site within the last week (and even the one cast that hasn’t, it’s just been eight days), and considering highly acclaimed fanfics out there like “The Enchanted Library” having been finished just relatively recently, and that I got a friend that’s a hardcore TwiDash shipper, in my experience, these ships are still pretty much alive, only, they’re just as alive as they were before Sunset Shimmer came into the picture. Like it or not, TwiShy just wasn’t ever really popular, and RariLight and TwiJack were just about there in popularity (though by the way, if you want a TwiJack recommendation, I strongly suggest “The Homesteading”; it’s got an awesome dramatic reading too that I strongly recommend too).

So what I’m arguing here is that their popularity hasn’t really fluxed so much because of SunsetSparkle coming into the picture. It’s popularity certainly has put the others into perspective because of how it has overshadow most other Twilight ships, but it certainly hasn’t erased the others from existing or thriving.

Here the argument that I am trying to explain is that I have nothing against SunsetSparkle, but I am against the fact that the Twilight shippings with the other Mane Six are forgotten. I mean, they were friends of Twilight since before Sunset’s arrival.

Uhm, how? If anything, Flashlight (and more so even, TimberTwi) show that what Canon does doesn’t always have that of an impact on the fandom’s preferences, since Sunsetsparkle, non-canon as it may be, has far surpassed them in popularity, considering the amount of fanart and fanfic (heck, for that matter, TimberTwi is so unpopular that it’s baffling that they’re still trying to push it). So what gives? What kind of argument are trying to present here and what’s your evidence?
