Nickname(s): Mari, Itsy, Lovebutt (Due to the heart-shape formed by the white spots covering her flank. And only by her parents, she’ll bite anyone else who calls her that)

Personality: Spunky and energetic. Very rash and prone to getting into fights.  
Important relationships:  
Apple Bloom (Mother) - Always seems to embarrass Mari by being overly affectionate and huggy, ruining Mari’s image. She secretly very enjoys her mom’s cuddles though.  
Pipsqueak (Father) - Mari is very much her dad’s girl; they’re both very intersted in adventures and going to far off places. When she was little he would often read Daring Doo books to her, and as she got older he’d bring her along on his (safer) voyages.  
Cameo Cultivar (Twin Brother) (No ref yet)- They seem very opposite, and Mari takes every opportunity to tease and play-fight with him. But it’s mostly for fun, and they both have each other’s back at a moments notice.  
Scootaloo (Honorary Aunt) - Mari’s idol. She spends much of her time following Scootaloo around like an enamoured puppy, and exitedly watcher her perform stunts on her scooter. Scootaloo is very fond of Mari, as she reminds her of her days of being Dash’s number one fan.
 
History:  
After dating for a few years, Apple Bloom and Pipsqueak were considering getting married and prepare to start a family sometime in the nebulous future. But then a whoops happened, and they had few months to scamble together everything they would need to raise a foal, not to mention the mental preparations necessary. But then another whoops happened, as it turned out they had one to few of everything and the foal was foals. Pipsqueak spent the first few days of being a father getting another set of everything they had spend months preparing before. How did the hospital miss it during checkups? Well, they were performed by the same doctor who previously didn’t recognize a dragon, so that may have something to do with it. He was fired after a visit from very upset aunt “saved-equestria-element-of-harmony-best-buds-with-princesses-etc” Applejack.
 
When they first saw Mari, they were immedietly struck with how similar she looked to the late Granny Smith. Not an exact match, but Apple Bloom couldn’t help a feeling of familiarity at that green coat, blonde mane and eyes that seemed so old yet new. So she was named after Granny Smith’s actual name (Apple Bloom was shocked, since she’d never known any other. Applejack just snorted and asked why anyone would name their child “Granny”. She had a point).
 
Mari currently lives in the main house on Sweet Apple Acres (they’ve added more buildings as everyone’s families grew), and goes to Ponyville Elementary. During the summers, her father takes her along on his voyages, and she spends her time learing how to read maps, how to speak foreign languages, how the ship works etc. She herself feels like these lessons are much more important than anyhting she learns in school.
 
She spends the rest of her free time either crusading with the new CMC, which isn’t as fun as it sounds like, since its often run by her mom. Or she’s getting into fights with other foals, and is grounded for a while. Yeas, Mari, we know they were being snooty and showing off their new expensive dresses, but that’s no excuse to wrestle them into the mud.
 
 
Trivia:  
She is 2 minutes older than her brother (something she never lets him forget), which is why one of her parents nicknames for her is “Itsy”, while her brother is “Bitsy”.  
She really wishes she was a pegasus more than anything. She loves flying, and is planning on buying an airship and traveling around the world when she grows up.  
The name Maria Ann Smith comes from the fact that Granny Smith apples were created by a woman named Maria Ann Smith.  
Her favourite bookseries is the Daring Doo books. When she learned that “Miss Kinyume”‘s mom wrote them, she spent a few weeks following Kinyume around trying to make her introduce her to her mom. Much to Kinyume’s hidden annoyance.  
Often wears a make-shift scarf around her neck since she doesn’t want to hear a bow, but still wants to make her mom happy and wear the gift she got her on her first birthday.  
Hates her heart marking. Absolutely loathes it. It wouldn’t be so bad, except for the embarrassing place it’s in.
