All that was required for her to be an alicorn was for her to be sent a book that would curse her friends, and she had to revise the spell to sound more friendship-y then it was before.
 
Whether she embodies friendship or not or if she understands it the most or least among her friends was a complete non issue to being made an alicorn. In full retrospect, with the show being over, the movie released where she’s the worst among the six regarding embracing friendship, and Celestia retiring…
 
…it was pretty clear the whole revised spell thing was just a paltry test made to be a pretense to rope Twilight into Celestia’s retirement plan, whether Twilight would of chose that path herself or not.

Plus, even before your ascension, you were an exceptionally powerful Unicorn, and it’s heavily implied that your transformation into an Alicorn made you even more powerful. So, fuck it; who needs these other losers anymore anyway?

I suppose you could phrase it that way. I mostly noticed she just used the term to fix the incantation. I’d lean on both of us being right after a fashion. The elements did turn her into an alicorn and that had to do with her embodying their principles so I’d have to say you are more correct.
