I know your comment is 4 years old, but what he was actually trying to get at with that wasn’t so much that the definition was broad, but that it was somewhat alien to us: it would destroy species that we might think aren’t that different from us, but upload ones that we found completely unrelatable. The issue isn’t so much one of Celestia uploading or destroying for seemingly arbitrary reasons, the issue is that it only cares about the narrow band of actions dictated by its directive and cares about nothing else, so it just uploads all the humans it can and converts the galaxy into more computational resources.
