When magical lasers become household items, I’m sure we’ll see them written out of family media.
That does point to one area where our attitude toward kid friendly can be ridiculous: lightsabers are fine because it’s okay to show kids a decapitation as long as there’s no blood. Please note that I’m generalizing.

Gotta love kids media logic: physical violence and death? Nope can’t have that think of the children! (Even though most of them nowadays see far worse things online on a daily basis.) being blasted with huge magic lasers and fates worse than death? A ok!
