Same
it would have been better with just three princessesanyway it’s a classic technique, to grab the listener’s attention by dropping the floor out from under them. nothing wrong with it necessarily, and ingram’s version rises back to that high intensity energetic glory the moment canterlot is revealed. “we got the beat” just… drops to a chorus then.
so my opinion is ingram’s version might have done better without that sudden drop into pleasant conversational energy levels, but charlotte’s version is just… awful. I think it was one of those last minute panic moments like, “we only have one afternoon left to make changes OH NO WE HAVE TO REDO THE ENTIRE INTRO OR PEOPLE WILL HATE US HURRY”
I dunno, I’m just not seeing the redundancy. then again I really didn’t like the “we got this” song at all, so honestly I’d have preferred charlotte did that one, if she absolutely had to, and left the intro as it was.
@TexasUberAlles
That’s /mlp/ for you.

I don’t really know why they had all that stuff made up.
@Tavi959
still pop music created for the movie
I think they’re all pretty good Friendship-Adjacent songs, but it still confuses me why they were a part of the soundtrack album but not– aside from Off To See The World– anything else. Presumably Hasbro commissioned them for The Movie, but… why? I wonder if they commissioned a bunch of artists to make “music inspired by” and picked out the one they liked best to use as the Ending Credits.
Edited because: o
Pop songs not sung by the cast. Which is pretty much the only reason Rainbow is in the main soundtrack; Sia was in the cast, if only just to sing it.
Which songs were they, covers for other 80s songs?
It has used in one trailer if I remember it correctly.
There’s a sizeable chunk of soundtrack in the vein of “Ponies Got the Beat” that never appears anywhere in the movie, but was still pop music created for the movie. It could have been used for trailers, ad campaigns, etc.
Is just that if they did go with “Equestria” and discard “Ponies Got the Beat” for the final product, then when will the song will be heard? A MLP ad? The soundtrack that includes Sia’s Rainbow?
But, at least it’s used in the final cut. But it made people angry that I felt like the only one who likes it. But I am not really the only one.
I honestly think that decision was Lionsgate and not Hasbro.
Had the film be distributed by Paramount, Disney, Fox or Universal, Platten’s cover wouldn’t be used in the film and the fandom’s happy.
Nothing. Stanley Kubrick just comes to mind when you bring up making things for movies that don’t end up being used.
What does Stanley Kubrick have to do with MLP and its songs?
Speaking of redundancy, while “Equestria” is a nice song, I think there are two problems with it. The first is that the title theme builds up a lot of energy, but then “Equestria” immediately drops it again. Say what you will about “We Got The Beat”, but it maintains the energy that’s been built up. I went back and watched the opening scene again, and I feel like the scene implies a lot more energy that “Equestria” provides. The second problem is that it’s redundant. It’s a song about a festival of friendship, then seven minutes later, we get ‘We Got This Together”, meaning that in the span of ten minutes, we’ve had two songs about the same thing.
So in my mind, there’s no question as to why they went with the opening they did.
@Hollowfox the Stallion
I pray you never look into the making of Stanley Kubrick films.
Yeah, but whoever made this better intro called the song shitty and that pisses me off.
I mean if it’s unused, what’s the point of making it for the movie if it’s not used?
Not really. I’ve seen plenty others who enjoyed it.
B) am I the only one who likes Rachel Platten’s version of We Got the Beat? It’s not shitty and you cannot force me to think like that just because it replaced something that would be better.
Did you still like the movie besides that?
I personaly hate ponies got the beat, and it made a terrible first impression of the movie on me. The cut version was much better, and i definately agree with the uploader about it.
There’s nothing wrong with “Ponies Got the Beat” but it really shouldn’t have been the song they used for the establishing moment of the movie.
I think both songs are good.
Maybe so, but the original is better by far and really should have been the one used. It’s too bad.
