it would have been better with just three princesses

the title theme builds up a lot of energy, but then “Equestria” immediately drops it again. Say what you will about “We Got The Beat”, but it maintains the energy that’s been built up
“we got the beat” immediately silences all instrumentals for a toneless edm drum machine. and you don’t call that dropping the energy?

anyway it’s a classic technique, to grab the listener’s attention by dropping the floor out from under them. nothing wrong with it necessarily, and ingram’s version rises back to that high intensity energetic glory the moment canterlot is revealed. “we got the beat” just… drops to a chorus then.

so my opinion is ingram’s version might have done better without that sudden drop into pleasant conversational energy levels, but charlotte’s version is just… awful. I think it was one of those last minute panic moments like, “we only have one afternoon left to make changes OH NO WE HAVE TO REDO THE ENTIRE INTRO OR PEOPLE WILL HATE US HURRY”

It’s a song about a festival of friendship, then seven minutes later, we get ’We Got This Together”, meaning that in the span of ten minutes, we’ve had two songs about the same thing.
ingram’s intro is about equestria, and the voiced ponies in both intros are talking all about the festival of friendship. “we got this” is about how her friends are going to help her, not a song introducing the festival.

I dunno, I’m just not seeing the redundancy. then again I really didn’t like the “we got this” song at all, so honestly I’d have preferred charlotte did that one, if she absolutely had to, and left the intro as it was.

Duck - If report count was a score, he'd have the biggest score
Pixel Perfection - I still call her Lightning Bolt
Silly Pony - Celebrated the 13th anniversary of MLP:FIM, and 40 years of MLP!
Shimmering Smile - Celebrated the 10th anniversary of Equestria Girls!
Lunar Supporter - Helped forge New Lunar Republic's freedom in the face of the Solar Empire's oppressive tyrannical regime (April Fools 2023).
Roseluck - Had their OC in the 2023 Derpibooru Collab.
Flower Trio - Helped others get their OC into the 2023 Derpibooru Collab.
King Sombra - Celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Crystal Empire!
A Lovely Nightmare Night - Celebrated the 12th anniversary of MLP:FIM!
Princess of Love - Extra special version for those who participated in the Canterlot Wedding 10th anniversary event by contributing art.

It’s a shame the Youtube OP had to be such a douche about it, Ingram’s piece is amazing but that has nothing to do with the fun little Go-Go’s parody they used instead.

still pop music created for the movie

I think they’re all pretty good Friendship-Adjacent songs, but it still confuses me why they were a part of the soundtrack album but not– aside from Off To See The World– anything else. Presumably Hasbro commissioned them for The Movie, but… why? I wonder if they commissioned a bunch of artists to make “music inspired by” and picked out the one they liked best to use as the Ending Credits.

Pop songs not sung by the cast. Which is pretty much the only reason Rainbow is in the main soundtrack; Sia was in the cast, if only just to sing it.

There’s a sizeable chunk of soundtrack in the vein of “Ponies Got the Beat” that never appears anywhere in the movie, but was still pop music created for the movie. It could have been used for trailers, ad campaigns, etc.

Pixel Perfection - I still call her Lightning Bolt
Lunar Guardian - Earned a place among the ranks of the most loyal New Lunar Republic soldiers (April Fools 2023).
Magnificent Metadata Maniac - #1 Assistant
Perfect Pony Plot Provider - 10+ uploads with over 350 upvotes or more (Questionable/Explicit)
The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012
Fine Arts - Two hundred uploads with a score of over a hundred (Safe/Suggestive)

It’s not perfect in the context of the movie, but it serves as a better introduction to Equestria for viewers who know nothing about the show.

Solar Supporter - Fought against the New Lunar Republic rebellion on the side of the Solar Deity (April Fools 2023).

Is just that if they did go with “Equestria” and discard “Ponies Got the Beat” for the final product, then when will the song will be heard? A MLP ad? The soundtrack that includes Sia’s Rainbow?

But, at least it’s used in the final cut. But it made people angry that I felt like the only one who likes it. But I am not really the only one.

I honestly think that decision was Lionsgate and not Hasbro.

Had the film be distributed by Paramount, Disney, Fox or Universal, Platten’s cover wouldn’t be used in the film and the fandom’s happy.

Friendship, Art, and Magic (2018) - Celebrated Derpibooru's six year anniversary with friends.

This version is nice, but it doesn’t jump out at me and make me wish it was in the movie. The part with the four princesses would have been an amazing teaser trailer. I think if they kept the part with Celestia, Luna, and Cadence, and then shortened Twilight’s part significantly, it would have flowed much better. The way it’s presented here is way too clunky and expositional, especially considering everything it establishes will be repeated in “We Got This Together”.

Speaking of redundancy, while “Equestria” is a nice song, I think there are two problems with it. The first is that the title theme builds up a lot of energy, but then “Equestria” immediately drops it again. Say what you will about “We Got The Beat”, but it maintains the energy that’s been built up. I went back and watched the opening scene again, and I feel like the scene implies a lot more energy that “Equestria” provides. The second problem is that it’s redundant. It’s a song about a festival of friendship, then seven minutes later, we get ‘We Got This Together”, meaning that in the span of ten minutes, we’ve had two songs about the same thing.

So in my mind, there’s no question as to why they went with the opening they did.

@Hollowfox the Stallion
I mean if it’s unused, what’s the point of making it for the movie if it’s not used?

I pray you never look into the making of Stanley Kubrick films.

A) why can’t they blame Lionsgate since they aren’t that good at handling animation the same way as Disney and DreamWorks. Especially with Ken Katsumoto.

B) am I the only one who likes Rachel Platten’s version of We Got the Beat? It’s not shitty and you cannot force me to think like that just because it replaced something that would be better.

I personaly hate ponies got the beat, and it made a terrible first impression of the movie on me. The cut version was much better, and i definately agree with the uploader about it.

There’s nothing wrong with “Ponies Got the Beat” but it really shouldn’t have been the song they used for the establishing moment of the movie.
