Maybe it “means nothing”, but you think they didn’t know what the reaction would be? And it’s not just the blushing, that whole special was full of the kinds of things shippers just love to latch onto. I don’t think that was a coincidence. I think they wanted to have a little fun getting the shippers all riled up.

As far as the fandom is concerned blushing is more potent shipping fuel as “ponies standing next to each other” which is to say, the animators/story board artists/script writers could have any number of reasons to make a character blush in any situation, which probably has nothing to do with shipping…  
But if I worked for Studio DHX I would totally draw in little pieces of bait for the brony fandom, like half of a second of Rainbow Dash or Applejack staring at Fluttershys butt, just to watch the fandoms reaction. :p
