What the Fluff?
I’m sad that 1.0 has taken as long as it has as well, but i’m confident the team will be making their new estimated date for it.

I wish I could be as confident.

but as someone who has been playing the game and actively participating in it, that’s to be expected.

I don’t know if you think I just picked it up once, spent five minutes with it then ditched it, I assure you I did not.

Single player story mode is slightly fair game; several key members working on the story mode (namely, their pixel artist) had some serious real life issues come up. The team unfortunately had to sit on this for a while, but they’ve picked up a new pixel artist since.

I’m aware IRL issues happened. I’m understanding about that and I didn’t hold it against them for it. But at a certain point, and a dozen email updates where nothing of note is actually happening except to tell us we’re still got a long ways to go, patience wears thin.

There are no “broken combos”. The game’s combo system prevents that. Perhaps you should give the game a second look and try out the tutorial to see how you could have dealt with them.

Not broken in the sense that they were unfair. Broken in the sense that timing and animations were off.

I never found the AI difficult myself, but a friend of mine complained about the AI when on the unfair difficulty a lot. You can go into your options and tone down the difficulty, I believe by default it’s set to medium? And if you’re having trouble getting hit by the same moves, maybe you should learn how to deal with them

Considering the team themselves acknowledged there was a problem with the AI difficulty and cheapness (even on the lowest setting) and issued a patch to help address it…I’m going to say no, it wasn’t just me. The game’s Steam forums also had several threads on the topic. This isn’t my first rodeo with fighting games, either. I’ve been playing them for almost 40 years.

My whole point is, is that the game wasn’t even close to what was promised at delivery, despite a HUGE delay. I get it, crap happens, that’s nothing new. But with similar experiences with so many other games, I’m not interested in being a glorified alpha tester who had to pay for that privilege. If they meet their latest projected v1.0 release date, cool. I’ll check it out again. Until then I’m not touching it anymore.

There is? Are you a backer? I am. I lost count of how many email updates I got where the theme was “We’re progressing and we promise it won’t be much longer, but…”

I’ll preface this by saying i’m a Backer’s Beta backer, and have been involved with the game since May of 2017. So I might be slightly biased when I defend the team.
It is taking a while, yeah, and that’s unfortunate. I’m sad that 1.0 has taken as long as it has as well, but i’m confident the team will be making their new estimated date for it.

Literally 98% of all the updates I got about the game were in that vein. And when it was discovered the latest build had a serious issue, they decided to release an earlier build that had been used for the higher Kickstarter backer tier preview as the launch version.

… Kickstarter backer tier preview as the launch version? What, the backers beta? That existed for a long time, and when the patch was rolled back slightly, all that was lost was a handful of animation polishes, and only for a little under a day. It’s been some time since, and I can’t directly remember it, but as someone who has been playing the game and actively participating in it, that’s to be expected.

What we got was something still deeply in alpha. No single player story mode. No tutorial. Missing and placeholders animations all over the place. Missing moves and abilities, broken combos, horribly cheap, overly difficult AI that would box you into a corner and beat you to death with the same cheap move faster than you could react. Bugs, crashes, and more.

There were no missing moves or abilities, at all. Every character was functioning as they should; maybe you just didn’t know the inputs? Like I said, I’ve been playing since backers beta and no character has gained/lost abilities.

And if you’re having trouble getting hit by the same moves, maybe you should learn how to deal with them; the tutorial does exist now to explain the concept of defense in fighting games.
Bugs and crashes are to be expected. It’s a given that will always happen.

I’m sorry to sound so critical of you, I may be slightly biased because of how involved I’ve been with the community and development of this game. It’s been delayed, yeah, but it’s not because the team isn’t trying. They’ve recently picked up a new staff member who’s entire job is to actually keep them on track and to push out better updates more often, aiming for monthly patches and workstreams. There was a recent workstream where the team went over… just about everything from EA launch to last patch, and showcased more progress, alongside a preview of story mode. There’s another one due in two days, maybe consider swinging by? There’s also a (now official) discord channel you can swing by if you want to hear more things more often.

There are so many things wrong in this comment, it’s kind of funny.

While things have improved and updates made, the last email I got is once again promising that v1.0 will be released “sometime this year.” I’m aware of the difficulties the teams has had, and I am understanding. But this far out and we’re still waiting to get the game and features we were promised three years ago that would be available at launch and we’re still waiting and the best we’ve got is a nebulous “sometime before the summer is over, hopefully”? Yeah, I’m a little testy about it. We were supposed to get a feature-rich launch-ready game. Not a stripped-down early-access alpha.

I BACKED the game. I followed it from day 1. I’ve gotten every single email from the team about it. I know what the !@#$ I’m talking about.

Yeah-yeah we get it, the game has been having a hard time in terms of everything, we know. No need to be so salty, especially when you have no idea what’s going on inside of indie dev team and you don’t keep track on updates.

What the Fluff?
Missed its estimated launch date by over a year, an older alpha preview version released in desperation so backers actually had something, and now a year later still unfinished, buggy, and missing content.

Happy anniversary, indeed. I’ll try it again once they actually reach v1.0 in, oh, two years from now. Maybe.
