The very outer edges of the sprites are pixelated/aliased because the (very outdated) engine that they used for fim cannot do smooth outlines(it was meant for only pixelated sprites). The mane6 only managed to pull off the smooth look inside the lines because there was enough color gradient to not make it look jagged between the outline and base color of the sprite. If there’s enough demand for it I could make a step by step process of how the mane6 (most likely) did it.
This Trixie was made just for fun and not for the game, but I can use it to show the process.
Uh no, it is a technique. The Mane6 team’s sprites are gifs and they don’t have blurred outline. They had a way of fixing the outlines whilst also keeping the show-style quality. I don’t know how they did this, but this secret technique probably involves rendering every sprite twice, one ugly with no anti-aliasing, and one with it but blurry edges. And then painfully manually taking the edges from the ugly one and putting them on the blurry one. I don’t think there’s a way to do this automatically. If there is I wanna know how, cause I have so far only ever been able to replicate that perfect look on a single sprite.
that is not a technique
that is a limitation of the .gif format
gif does not behave with transparent background
is it fighting is magic?
