@Garden Tinker
If I did a game I would give each character a list of weapons and items they could equip and use, but I wouldn’t outright say “characters CAN’T equip certain items” unless there was some sort of physical reason why they couldn’t. I’d instead have stuff like that, where a character who’s trained to use swords would suffer a massive accuracy penalty if you gave them a gun (since they were crap at aiming), and trying to put armor on like a monk or wizard would just impede them and actually reduce their stats. So if it says a character can’t equip a sword and you choose to give him one anyways, you should expect him to suffer a massive stat penalty from it :D
And yeah, I figure something like goo armor would be the opposite, where it would help be a buffer to deflect damage from goo creatures but a non-goo creature wears it and it just has low to zero defense XD
@Twifan
Well, to be frank, I’m one of those that’s generally considered Trixie an Illusionist of sorts – siginificant magical leaning, but more of an indirect attacker, such as more often using debuffs, conditional damage types (only ‘this’ type of terrain or ‘this’ type of enemy), or perhaps DoTs.
I like to think of Fleur De Lis as a Red Mage sort, though! Definitely a Swordcaster at least.
@Badumsquish
Interesting! And also a welcome change to just ‘Goos can’t wear armor’.
But I was moreso wondering if the goo could be equipped as armor. I’ve played a couple games where that was possible, and I always thought it was pretty cool having living armor like that.
@Garden Tinker
Goo ponies are like Poo from Earthbound where most equips lower their stats instead, because of how inherently different their bodies are. With a normal pony you’d want to block and absorb the blow, while a goo pony would want to freely be able to splatter around the blow to displace around the force. Armor would just trap her body in the way of the attack. Accessories and items that magically increase defense would work, though :P
@Twifan
I kind of imagined she’d be like Geno from Mario RPG: A good mix of buff and attack spells, a decent magic-themed standard attack, and limited to cloth-type armors. Also the ability to befriend and recruit monsters, like this goo pony, the manticore, etc :D
@Twifan
I figured this one would be like the tutorial one who joins you no matter what. You encounter her, Trixie can’t do any damage because all her attacks are magic-based which the goo pony just eats, and the goo pony can’t do any damage because her only attack is MP Drain. Once she drains Trixie’s MP she yields and you get the prompt to let her join you :D
@Garden Tinker
The goo pony eats magic, so she’d be down for this any time she was hungry. And she can only equip certain kinds of accessories :D
Darn it Trixie, stop enjoying it and fight back! We can’t keep her if you lose! Opponents never join you when you lose! Think of the long term benefits here!
Oh XD
That’s not why I lose them. ;)

That era of RPG was merciless as hell. Even SNES-era ones like Earthbound were pretty merciless in the beginning :P

What, you don’t think Trixie might be something of a Red Mage/Swordcaster class who can wear heavier armor than other spellcasters?
And then she mysteriously has access to not only normal attacks but also her own manna pool…
Right, right, classes, I forget sometimes… Goo armor is typically medium or heavy armor, too, so probably none for Trixie… Bleh.

Also, can we equip her as armor? Slime armor is typically upper-middle quality, and it makes her immediately useful!
