I imagine trying to coax Gallus into a gentle situation would be much like those videos of poor abused dogs who scream and cry when someone goes to pet them because they are so used to the harsh abuse, they just expect more of it and are confused when they aren’t getting beaten.
 
I see Ocellus as being the one who’d both be kind enough but also generous enough to work through Gallus’ shell.
