Actually, both can have ~500kbps
And bitrate is not everything… like the artifacting with Opus at 384 with AAC even at 224 I probably couldn’t hear any artifacting whatsoever (I didn’t fully test but it was DEFINITELY better)… it was definitely an odd glitch that happened with a couple songs I tested… but one song was really bad to where even at 384 I could hear it… barely, but enough… I passed a 30 trial ABX test in like 5min
Because Opus should get at least 30-40% or so better compression over Vorbis… but it can be weird
Opus should also be FULLY transparent by 192… but that obviously isn’t always the case
Anyway, we can talk about this more in pm if you want… but it’s probably gone far enough in the comment section
Oh, I also want to mention that if you recompress a song/audio file over and over again it EXPONENTIALLY increases artifacting
For example, compress a song with V0 of LAME five times and artifacting starts becoming extremely audible

Ah you meant in general, not that this one has artifacting.

Exactly. I’d rather not force a codec into a container that doesn’t support it. Cause youknow, I’d like it to be viewable on here, lul. That’s why I went with opus, since it can have a higher bitrate than vorbis.

Don’t worry about it.. the artifacting I’m talking about mostly seemed to happen with electronic music and above 320 starting greatly getting less audible.. so 510 is well above that and any artifacting should be pretty much inaudible
Also, I haven’t really tested Vorbis so who knows
ALSO, the highest quality audio stream I know of is 160kbps AAC so.. that’s certainly not going to be FULLY transparent.. although, very close
Okay.. I might download the ~900mb raw file (DRM-free of course otherwise can’t take a screencap) and do a higher quality version

So, basically, just doing AAC pass thru to get the 160kbps iTunes file would be best but it wouldn’t be fully compatible with webm
Sure, you could force it but who knows what problems that could cause

1)She was flustered about helping her friend and being called out for it while being bashful and failing to hide the fact from Clear Sky.

2)I have garbage internet, so I took what I could take for the video, though I did get the uncompressed audio which I felt was more representative of the important content overall.

2/3)Honestly, I haven’t had issues with opus, but I’m nowhere near an audiophile, nor do I have the equipment to distinguish it. I just set the audio bitrate to the maximum opus will allow. It’s smaller than vorbis with a higher bitrate to an extent, and my upload speed is 2 dialup channels, so I sought to optimize that while keeping quality. And any compression at all could introduce artifacting, so a massive bitrate with good compression seemed to be a middle ground in my opinion. I didn’t notice there was artifacting, thanks for the tip, can you point me to what timestamp it was at so I can inspect future encodings?

Yeah, I want to use flac, but webm doesn’t have the ability to have flac as an option unfortunately, this was just an attempt to uploading a high quality webm since I think that’s all derpibooru allows for – at least the last time I checked, otherwise I would use an mkv container to put flac into, or an mp4 container with some other codec as I think flac is experimental with it. Ogg can hold video though, but I don’t think derpibooru allows for that either.

This is interesting don’t be sorry lol, transcoding stuff is a minor hobby of mine at this point, so it’s interesting to have feedback explaining qualms. By all means if you got a better rip, crop and upload a better replacement.

Three things:
  1. this is super cute but I didn’t quite understand why she reacted this way
  2. why would you go through all that effort for a SD source when the DRM-free 1080p iTunes source was already released long before this was posted
  3. in my experience Opus can have artifacting even at extremely high bitrates (at least up to 384 or 448kbps) but then again… I guess original audio would have artifacting, too
My point is at those bitrates Vorbis MIGHT actually be better.. but I guess it doesn’t really matter

I don’t think I could pass an ABX test once I hit 192 or at least 224kbps with Apple AAC no matter how hard I tried.. but for some reason with 384kbps Opus I could pass a 30 trial ABX test easy peasy.. there was a crackle sound in a part of the audio (I made sure to normalize it down 5-10db first to make sure it wasn’t clipping)

Sorry, it’s just annoying when things have significant artifacting even at really high bitrates.. and I’m pretty sure the source was true lossless… but it could have been compressed into a lossless container.. but I doubt it as frequencies went up to 22khz and it didn’t look like frequencies had been taken out (but then again, you can’t tell a lot of times if it’s compressed at a high-quality)

Ugh.. why do I get annoyed so easily.. and why do I always have to rant on about it
