Ya know? Sometimes I think that this should become a fetish, like, I don’t know actually, but people really like her (in different ways).
Man, every Jasmine upload blows up. Furries are generally a rarity throughout all MLP multimedia, so, this kind of shit is an inevitability. ^w^;
TLDR: she was designed with one purpose in mind; to be a cute but also sexually attractive character who would fit into the world of Equestria. If I wanted to, I could have just brought in my snow leopard Arizel. But, that wouldn’t have worked because that would have literally been pulling a furry from an FA bio :P

the uploader got approval from the admins when this issue first came up. she doesnt have to look exactly like capper down to the specs for it to be canon.
So you agree, it is “barely pony related”. So why someone continues to remove the tag over and over is what I take issue with. I’m not arguing that the art doesn’t belong on Derpibooru just because it is an anthro, but just that it should be tagged correctly. Only by the thinnest veneer of “lul she’s abyssinian, it’s canon” it is related.

Given that this argument has been on so many of the images that are just this character, that she doesn’t fly close enough to be a violation of the rules. I do think that the “barely pony related” tag is fine for her, the idea of an Abyssinian is, itself, pretty odd. If you look at this picture of Capper, there is absolutely no way that you’d be able to tell that it’s supposed to be an MLP character without knowing that he is a character from the movie.
Now take a look at Catrina, a G1 character which is basically just an anthro cat woman. She’s allowed on the site, and is a major character in the comic “Anon’s pie adventure,” but even so, there’s a comment under this animation which says “this is literally just furry art now, I realize this is a show character (somehow) but come on.”
These characters are borderline furry. But even so, they appear more like they should be tagged with “barely pony related” than the image you linked with “could easily have been lifted straight off of a Furaffinity bio.” And at the same time, the description for “barely pony related” says “DO NOT USE ON FURRY OR HUMANIZED OCs JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT PONIES.”
I think that the major issue with this is that there simply isn’t a defined MLP Abyssinian. As far as I can tell, the only official Abyssinian is Capper, and that’s not enough to really get an idea of what it should look like. Especially not in the show itself, since it’s got an entirely different artstyle from the movie. Meanwhile, Catrina is all the way from G1. The only thing they have in common is the shape of their head. And, I think, that’s an issue to accepting Jasmine as an MLP OC. The only two cannon cat-type characters have very wide heads. With all of the other Ranchtown OCs, you can clearly see that they have equine heads. With Jasmine, sure, the head is cat-like, but it’s not wide like the heads of the only two cat-like characters in any version of MLP (that I know of).
She is the definition of a run of the mill furry character inserted into a pony story. A big titted catgirl anthro with the only thing linking her to MLP is to call her an abyssinian. I’d liken it to the people who post pictures of feral/anthro dragons or ‘diamond dog’ OCs that look like someone almost 1:1’d their fursona. Technically it is ‘pony related’ because those species exist, but that relation is practically in name only. It’s one thing when the artist attempts to make their character seem plausible in-universe, either by imitating the art style or the OC’s features fall within the canon design philosophies. But, many designs do not attempt to mimic style, do not follow canon design, and could easily have been lifted straight off of a Furaffinity bio. For these we have the lovely tag “Barely Pony Related”, because the only justification for their existence on Derpibooru is the artist/creator’s word.
Jasmine, as lovely as a character as she is, really does fall under barely pony related. Nothing about her screams abyssinian beyond being a cat and the creator saying so. This is partly due to her being even more anthrofied than abyssinians already are so both proportions and art style are thrown out the window. The fanfiction story she is from is set in an Equestria that could easily be set in Southern Indiana with town names changed. Nearly everything about the character is so disassociated with the source material that by only the thinnest of connections can one call her pony related.
If we went strictly by the logic of X species exists and is in X fanfic, then Kaa could be classified as pony related when clearly he is not.
TL:DR - The farther OC’s stray from the source material the more likely they are to be branded barely pony related. Jasmine flies too close to the sun.

She’s been featured in nothing else but the mlp au of Calico64’s “Ranchtown” series. These pics are of current and future ideas for events in her new life in the land of Equestria.
She’s not just some run of the mill furry character inserted into a story with ponies in it. She was made specifically for the story; having family and background of her life in the foreign land before she comes to Equestria to come in future additions to their chapters.
