Description

Finally finished my ponysona sculpture. I started him last Thursday and got him done this Wednesday so I got it done in less than a week thankfully.

I started off making a wire armature base out of twirly wires and then covered them in aluminum foil for extra stability. I then covered it in Fimo Puppen oven-bake doll clay and baked him. After that I finished the sculpt with some Super Sculpey and regular Sculpey III oven bake clay. The tail was made separately and was made with a small Lego cross peg piece to connect it to his butt and be removed for storage and transportation purposes. After the second time baking him, I sanded him down with rough sand paper and finished it with fine sand paper. His upper and lower mane pieces are made out of Apoxie sculpt because I was afraid of baking him again due to having small cracks appear in several places so I went with a tougher air-dry material that was easier to sand. Once that was all done, I painted him using Apple Barrel acrylic paint and Testors acrylic paint. I super glued his goatee (made of Sculpey) and his mane pieces to his head and then put a final mound of Apoxie on the back of his head to connect the two lower mane pieces and the top one and let it harden over night. I then sanded the Apoxie and painted it and sealed him and he was done.

There is my ponysona and I hope you guys like him! I had a lot of fun making this and love how he turned out. As you can see I was going for a look that resembles my drawing style and I got it looking pretty spot-on to that. I feel very confident to make more pony sculptures like this and I am going to try opening up for commissions and sell them at conventions someday so stay tuned!

Again, he is not for sale but if you are ever interested in commissioning me for a sculpted pony, be sure to note me and we’ll talk abou the price and stuff.

This guy was really fun to work on but sadly his tail broke and I never got around to fixing it and then to make matters worse, I made a huge mistake by mixing softer clay with the harder clay around his leg and it caused some massive cracking and the glue I used to fill it up peeled. He’s also got a crack going down his butt too. No, not like that. XD

Shame it had to go to waste like that. I have thought of patching him up or tearing it apart and reusing the hair pieces but we’ll see.
