Actually in previous episodes they suggested that.
I’ve always thought that spike and the cmc actually do hang out but it’s just offscreen.

Well, the CMC had the main roles in an episode but Spike didn’t. I guess we will see it in the season finale.
It’s a shame we couldn’t have at least one episode where spike and the cmc are the main focus but oh well.
