I don’t like the idea of them punishing discord for trying to help his friends also given the actions he took to make up for it especially after they never punished starlight for being responsible for an apologyscapse in multiple other dimensions although accidentally when having intentionally ill willed intentions. This isnt hate against starlight by the way im just saying.
However I am fine with him choosing to give them up himself because there too dangerous and so the writers don’t try to be lazy to try to make him responsible for a problem again imo discord has evolved enough as a person to not do something like this again or act out because he feels left out like he did in some episodes. But much like rainbow dash the writers might get lazy and have characters go back on traits that they already had character development to get over at a certain point. Relapses are realistic but some are too extreme.

Plus, the series director, Jim Miller said that they wanted Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow to be the collective main villains of the finale because they had more of a connection to the main characters.

To prepare viewers in case they succeeded in double-crossing Grogar. Because if Grogar double-crossed them, it would’ve been redundant since we’ve already seen the villain betray his top minion twice already.

It only seemed like they were only agreeing with her just to stay on her good side. It genuinely seemed like they’d consider friendship a good feeling. As much as I hate to say it, it’s Chrysalis’ fault that they were confined to their fate. And if they truly wanted to make those three irredeemable faceless demons, why did that episode exist?

I never said that. Besides, after Chrysalis openly rejected the notion of friendship, even calling it a “disease”, with Cozy Glow and Tirek agreeing with her, and then they started planning to betray and overthrow Grogar, I really don’t think the episode was a waste of the audience’s time.

Also, you underestimate how viscious and disgusting children can be. For instance, there were two boys several years back — about nine or ten if I recall — that lured a four year old to follow them, beat him badly, threw bleach on him, and then when he died from the beating, threw his body on the train tracks to get run over.
 
Yikes, where was that happen? Where are they now?

Starlight was petty but she felt wronged for doing right and when she was given a chance to really see the consequences of her actions, she not only stood down but accepted any punishment they wanted to give her.
Cozy, Tirek, and Chrysalis already said “no” to redemption and both threatened and have resumed the course of their evil nature. Reveling in it. When this failed, they threatened to do it again. They were happy to do it again.
And, take into account their actions - manipulating the ponies to turn against each other to the point that the once mythical windogoes returned, attacked the heroes of Equestria, the pillars, the guards, and the princesses, destroyed half of Canterlot, and they would have done worse if they could control Discord’s magic.
Compound this with Chrysalis past of kidnapping Cadance and disguising herself as said princess to launch an invasion on Canterlot and then returning to capture the heroes of Equestria and kidnapping all of the royals to then outright reject a chance at redemption.
Tirek who tried to take Equestrian magic for himself and escaped a thousand years later to do the same while manipulating Discord into helping him.
And Cozy who nearly caused the death of an entire class knowing magic is failing, tried to get important foreigners sucked into wherever the magic was going, attacked an official, manipulated a student body, and when caught threatened to do it again.
They had chances at redemption, they discarded it and got worse with more opportunities.

Just because they are a child does NOT mean they are some innocent, ignornant little thing.

If that’s the way the world works, I’d say we’ve lost our way.
 
That self-righteousness is why a “perfect” man can’t be a “perfect” king, Ofc things like kindness forgiveness are important but sometimes u have to hit em where it hurts. Paying evil unto evil is a form of justice as well just a darker kind, Discord and The princesses didn’t turn them to stone because there some evil bastards who want to rain their power over everyone, they did it because from what the 3 shown they completely deserved it to them and wanted to be sure they were done with them for good.
