Well, that’s why everyone has their own opinion ;-)
I put that season behind me and despite not seeing it as canon to my fanfics, I respect the opinion of those who like that ending;-)
I disagree, the “worst possible not-dystopia ending” would have been the Mane six ending their friendship after Twilight’s coronation because then it would made the entire show all for nothing, hell i’d even say that the fact that they only meet once a month (wich is NOT that crazy especially for Twilight) only make this better because it show that their friendship , the one we saw grow from litteraly ep1 s1, STILL stand strong despite their distance and to me, this ending was the best ending they could have gone with.

As for Ponyville not becoming the Capital? Eh… I can’t really explain that one but I’d guess its because Canterlot has always been seen has the central powerhouse in Equestria and besides Ponyville and Canterlot aren’t even that far, it’s meaningless to move the entire government to the near town just because your friends are there (as for Twilight’s Castle , she probally gave it to Starlight).
They really did something like “they only meet once a month”? That’s the worst possible not-dystopia ending ever. Twilight’s whole quest was to learn about friendship and she was sent to Ponyville because she hated the idea to leave her friends.

Possibly after, or an alt-U where it happens a little before. Heck, an alternate universe story where Twilight is explaining to Luster why they’re all moving to Ponyville. Sure, the idea is late, but it’s not like someone couldn’t write it. My issue with Spike was just that he’s the friendship advisor. What’s that? Why? He was always her number one assistant, so why not seneschal? Or as I indicated, if the government is split, royalty in Ponyville, the bureaucrats that make things happen day to day in Canterlot, in sort of a management role, beneath her, but basically equal too or above everyone else.
So, Twilight moving the capital to Ponyville… after the epilogue future?
And Spike becoming her co-ruler? He did seem like the “Luna” to her “Celestia”… including the bit, where Luster just flat out ignored he was there.
Sounds like a good idea, if a little “late”… but better late then never.

Yeah, exactly! Twilight can canonically do a 7 pony (+1 dragon) teleport straight from her throne room in Canterlot Castle to Ponyville. Fluttershy has Discord instant-travel taxi service across the world, and she could take others. (Actually, she could take Rarity places if she needed to visit her other boutiques!)
Why does the episode go out of its way to say “they only meet, like, once a month”?!
How’s that supposed to be a happy ending?! That’d be horrible!
It does make sense initially, ponies prolly don’t like change, so a huge change of new ruler and new capital wouldn’t go over well. Plus how do you make it work, move the entire government to Ponyville? Give ten or twenty years, and all the details can be worked out, everypony would be used to Princess Twilight, so such a change wouldn’t be as big a deal. And it’d give Spike a better job than Friendship Ambassador, likely he’d run the Canterlot part of the government and coordinate with Twilight via dragonfire messaging.
and of course the Legion of Doom are slowly getting reformed by staying together and someday accepting that friendship isn’t a bad thing.

Still. Twilight already had a castle. That castle is even still around in the future. Forcing her to move to Canterlot doesn’t make sense, especially when she is the sole ruler - doesn’t she get a say in it?

I honestly thought after Twilight mentioned her move to Canterlot so casually in s9e20, with a smile on her face - literally just “throwing it out there” in the first 45 seconds of an episode that wasn’t even about her leaving (which honestly completely destroyed that entire episode for me since that was all I could think about the entire time watching it) - that the reason was simply that the writers had a quick-fix for it.
And COME ON, they brought this up in season 8! It was OBVIOUS! >_<#
…Of course, not to mention: TWILIGHT ALREADY HAD HER OWN CASTLE! IF SHE’S THE RULER OF THE LAND, SHE SHOULD FREAKIN’ GET TO DECIDE WHERE SHE’D RULE FROM! >_<#

Using the amulet, Twilight has effectively unlimited instant access to Ponyville, and by extension, her friends.
I’m all for your idea, the more the merrier. I was just looking for a quick visual way to convey the concept.

This way, Twilight could literally visit Ponyville as easily as if Ponyville was the next room over. :D
Otherwise, the implication is that Celestia and Luna both dumped their responsibilities, combined, on one pony, Twilight. And that’d be just unfair to her, especially after they went on and on in s9e13 about how much they wanted “out of the golden cage”. :(

It’s not a problem of physical distance, it’s they’re being too busy with their new responsibilities to have more time together. Quick travel wouldn’t change that much.
