Well yeah I’m sure she’d clean every once in a while by doing basic things, like maybe putting things away, or fixing obvious things like a mess that needs a good mopping or even sweeping, but when it comes to dusting that part still seems a little out of character to me.
 
I prefer not to think of that as a flaw here though, like I said I can’t help but feel this change in behavior has something to do with Rarity. It may not even be intentional from the artist but I just really think it’d be cute if Applejack started doing more hardcore cleaning to impress her marshmallow darling.
 
In away that would make this comic even more ironic because despite the motivation for her behavior she completely misses the wide open opportunity that Rarity just threw at her.

It’s a good point, I forgot that season 1’s scene and because some my experience with country-people I know that maybe they aren’t “clean-maniac” but sure not so filthy.
 
 

 
This is very sweet and I fully approve the idea. Also Rarity could be “less perfectionist” because she knows AJ’s efforts and want be supportive.

Even someone who’s not all that concerned with cleanliness has to try and tidy up their house once in a while, lest it becomes a hovel. Maybe she was in the middle of spring cleaning when Rarity called.

Cleanliness may be practical but it’s usually never a priority for Applejack, she tends to go a few layers deeper on the “practicality sphere”. She’s usually described as a character who would rather build a shed or finish a harvest than worry about her place being tidy. Now if the building itself were suffering some kind of serious disrepair I’m sure she’d get right on that, but even in season one Rarity had to remind Applejack of proper manners so she wouldn’t track mud all over Twilight’s home.
 
If anything, I can’t help but think her sudden interest in keeping the house tidy has something directly to do with Rarity’s influence. She either keeps nagging about this, or, more adorably, Applejack may be insecure about appearances now that she’s with someone. She never had anyone to really impress before.

Well, why not? I always see AJ a very pratical girl more than a “tomboy” like Rainbow Dash.
 
For her is a work to do like others, if you should clean your house, you must clean your house XD
 
P.s. also I am sure that Rarity fantasizes about AJ in a french maid’s outfit in that contest XD

Coming back to this, I’m still surprised Applejack of all people is actually dusting.
