it is however entirely possible to get assimilated without even realizing it. and things that are not physically connected are independent from each other. so she’d effectively be creating anonfilly-thing, using anon as a… template. and then things would get very bad, very fast.
 

considering what he’s watching, I don’t think anything of value would be lost…

Assimilation is if they just fuse at all. There are no degrees that knock it out of that like it’s just temporary or he doesn’t die/get erased. Not only that, but if she changes his whole body, that means she has complete control over it because all his cells are hers, so he’s a part of her now, so it’s even more assimilation than if the flesh just sticks together.

I don’t think they die no matter how much she modifies their bodies. They die in the movie because they’re erased, overwritten, who they are ceases. So Thingpone should be able to turn Anon into anything as long as she leaves his mind intact.

its not really assimilation if she’s just temporarily merging with him to change his physical shape.  
There was a story where she assimilated applejack, and then un-assimilated her later on, since she reserves the memories and physical details of everything of anything, she can re-make them and separate them from her mass so they’re basically the same as they were, but that was an actual full 100% assimilation, with anon I don’t think that’d be necessary.
