It wasn’t cruel, Larson was just joking how there’s technically not going to be a new season. He jokes all the time, like when he said he accidentally turned somebody in the grocery store into an alicorn.
Plus, it wouldn’t make everybody happy, some fans actually don’t like his episodes.

I don’t think “Fame and Misfortune” was meant to be taken that seriously, or meant in ill-will, especially sense Larson usually gets along with the fanbase. Even he apologized for the episode when it offended some fans.
are you sure? I’m pretty sure he was joking when he said he was returning for season 10. he probably didn’t even know they were doing the comics
Yep, he is! I enjoyed every episode he wrote (except Fame & Misfortune) so I’m sure he may fix the errors that this show has made. :)

Hopefully the comics will give us a better understanding. I’m sure it’ll be better since M.A. Larson is returning.
I honestly feel he should have been given an origin story TBH. But I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine. :)
Something like that, it’s kinda hard to explain. Discord himself is frankly not always easy to understand, and for some fans they like that mystery about him, especially sense he’s never given an orgin story, or anything in the show.
I liked the implication he knew Tirek’s old man, King Vorak. (Which kinda ties into the comics actually.)

So I guess what you’re saying is that it’s just ‘Discord being Discord, and sometimes more so than usual’? Not trying to be rude, just trying to understand.
And Fluttershy made it more “chaotic” for him, and the ep’ showed Fluttershy accepts him for who he is.
When faced with a full room of Changelings pretending to be her, it’s kinda understandable he got a li’l overwelmed.
And as I said, his intentions were good, but he underestimated the trio, and overall being Discord, he does overdo things sometimes.
Discord: But you are obviously not Fluttershy!
Of course I know that too! I love it when he’s mischievous. What I’m saying is that what he did in Season 9 was beyond mischief.
Kinda unfair honestly, as the ep’ made it pretty clear he was not faking anything, (assuming you’re refering to losing his power) I doubt Discord being who he is would walk such a distance, and be exhausted/dirty, if he could still teleport, and such, not to mention, many other parts he could’ve easily used his powers to send the villainous trio to Tartarus, and after the trio betrayed Groger/himself you can’t convince he wouldn’t try to get even with them at the soonest moment.
Meta-wise, they kinda needed Discord depowered so the main heroes could truely shine.
You forget that doing that, and denying who he was, and his chaotic nature basically almost killed him.

The Discord you know and love was never a saint.
If he wasn’t a li’l chaotic, or anti-hero-ish, he wouldn’t be Discord, but he still has his good points, and the Tirek incident still ensured he’ll remain on the pony’s side. If Discord was always a perfect gentleman, only did teaparties with Fluttershy, and lacked his flaws, he’d be honestly a boring character.
I like the fact Discord is one of the few reformed villains whom still basically have their original personality, and he’s more interesting as a not-always-reliable ally, rather then a saint.
