Jury Rigging’s the best thing ever.
 
Got a one-handed weapon that needs fixing? Use another one-handed weapon.  
Got armor that needs tending? Use other armors.  
That marksman rifle not holding up so well? Grab an assault carbine or a sniper rifle and it’ll be good as new.

I know there was perks so you wouldn’t have to use the same weapon/armor but I’m not sure I ever got one like that. It sure would have been useful in Old World Blues where I had to constantly pay high prices to fix my power armor.

Even better was New Vegas where you could get a perk that just let you use items in the same category to fix them. Now your unique armor can see peak condition without modding the game. Unlike that goddamn T-51 suit in 3 where you were stuck having to see a specific trader to get it fixed since no other T-51s existed in the capital wasteland apparently.

I’ve never played Fallout or other open world games but YES, this is something Breath of the Wild should have had. I mean, the moment you find other weapons that you want to exchange should really be how you part with older weapons. Along with selling the former weapons like in an RPG. Hopefully the Breath of the Wild sequel will include all of these well-needed quality of life updates.

The worst part about the degradable weapons in Breath of the Wild is that you can’t repair them like other open world games. For example in Fallout 3, you can use up duplicates to repair your weapon. Breath of the Wild would be much better if it had something like that.

I don’t blame her there because even I’m still dumbfounded by how equipment is handled in that game, but this could also be due to how I’ve lost interest and motivation with the Zelda series. When I played the game for the first time with one of my neighbors guiding me, I felt so overwhelmed and uncomfortable. How the game plays really didn’t click with me since equipment can be permanently lost once you use it all up which discourages combat along with enemies and traps being able to knock you out in one swoop, at the beginning of the game! Unless this is Undertale where violence is discouraged, then I think this is a mistake. I’ve been told that you can repair legendary weapons once you collect them and use up their hit usage, but god it would be so much more convenient if every weapon had this.  
When I did leave the Great Plateau, my neighbor told me to go to specific locations without any holdups. Not even when passing by NPCs. The stress and uncomfortablness continued to grow until we found a stopping point.
 
Can’t say much about your dad though. Maybe he has too much in his life and word puzzle games are the only things that he has enough patience and dedication for? I mean, its similar to what my dad plays these days.

I mean my mother was pretty into Zelda and even got a switch as well as a copy of Breath of the Wild. But good lord is she just dumbfounded by the idea of a Zelda game where you have to scavenge for your equipment in the initial hours of the game. As for my dad, maybe. He went from many different genres to Tiger Woods games as well as candystore.com (or whatever that old flash game site was) and then after the save loss with the former, he just lost interest in games for a while and settled on word puzzle games.

Ooh…… Just to make sure, is it not because their lack of interest is due to older age? I’ve seen people gravitate to slower and casual games as they grow older.

Well they were when I was growing up. In general they were pretty big Nintendo fans up until one got into sports games, fell out due to lost save data, and then settled on playing IOS word games and the other kept playing until they figured that Nintendo was just putting out the same games again and again so they settled on Candy Crush.

Yeah but I’m talking about them going from games like Star Fox 64, Bomberman 64, Goldeneye, Turok, hell even Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and Zelda to word games and Candy Crush.

At first they did in fact use trademark names, including Nintendo and Mario, but switched in 1997. I’m not sure if that includes the game to which the mom was addicted.
