the heck is this nonsense? Of course Nyx remembers she is Nightmare Moon! She has all the memories of Being NM in Past Sins ( and she aslo has the Summer Sun celebration Memories if you read the quote below) . She knows full well that she is NM , she remember s being told about NM, she remembers finding out through the school play, etc. Hell she even knows that Luna took away all her previous memories. She doesnt remember the feelings Luna felt a thousand years ago . But that is it really. where you got the Idea that Nyx walks around wracking her mind trying to figure out why she coup-d’e tat the royal sisters is beyond me.

Fair enough but it means she won’t forget that her actions have consequences. Not everyone in Equestria has forgiven her. Twilight will be able to tell her why and she still has memories of feeling betrayed. I’d argue those feelings were probably bigger motivators than whatever memories she had from Luna.

there’s a reason you should take away recent memories when you take away distant memories. without luna’s memories, nyx would have remained a filly, and not gone through all that hardship. just taking them away leaves nyx with no frame of reference. nyx remembers turning into nightmare moon and doing cruel things, but has no idea why she did so anymore.

She remembers everything in the first 10 chapters of PS before being NMM.  
Again, Nyx truly believed that Twilight betrayed and wanted to get rid of her. Nyx was utterly heartbroken despite her new demeaner. In her heart she was still just a scared filly.

Only Luna’s memories were taken IIRC  
Nyx’s memories of when she was NMM are still intact. Things such as the Summer Sun Celebration and before are gone.

The memories of being trapped in the moon and everything that preceded that, when she and I were truly one and the same. She will remember the facts about our shared past, but she will no longer know the torment of spending a millennium in banishment.
“To put it simply, Twilight, I took back what was mine and mine alone.”
“Will she remember everything else that’s happened?” Twilight asked cautiously.
“Yes, Nyx must live with the decisions she made for herself. She possesses every memory from the moment she took her first breath as her own pony, until now. After all, it was the events of these last few weeks that helped her discover the kind of mare she wants to be. She’ll also retain a few key memories from the day of the Summer Sun Celebration two years ago, mostly because of how closely those memories are intertwined with her memories of her school play and the following evening.
 
So yes, she kept the memories of those two weeks.

Wrong, the only memories Luna took back were those which belonged to her as Nightmare Moon in the first place (everything pertaining to her thousand-year banishment and what led to it). Nyx however still remembers everything she did following her “birth”, including her brief stint as Queen of Equestria, guilt included.

considering her relationship with dyx, she probably has weekly sessions with luna nowadays.

Exactly, the picture’s not how I remember Past Sins going (IIRC, Nyx beat Celestia and banished her and her sister in their respective celestial body; also Twilight was the only one whose execution was attempted during Nyx’s reign — once again Spell Nexus’s doing in a ploy to regain control, sometime after Nyx raised back the sun when she realized that, despite the Children of Nightmare’s efforts, having eternal night simply wasn’t sustainable).

Assuming you haven’t read, Nyx ruled for a short while. About 2 weeks from what I recall, as that’s how long the Eternal Night was.  
Though given Spell Nexus’s influence, it could be argued Nyx didn’t really rule either.
