I agree with your points on how she has flawed leadership. Side note: I understood discord needed to be called out in the finale, but i didn’t like her being the one doing it considering she has done things similar in teaching twilight and this tweet post has made it even worse for me. But all that being said; I still do like her and do think she means well.

invest way too much time in children’s cartoons.
Do you not realize that cartoons are a part of our Modern Myths? Without those stories, myths, and fairy tales; how do we best define the morality of our species in what should be considered just and true to life?
People seem to love bringing Celestia down a peg whenever they get the chance.
It also should go without saying that there will always be times when an icon is presented in a less-than-desirable way or is not shown to showcase the abilities that they are said to posses and make the misstep of offering little-to-no explanation as to why they would not want to get involved; which would beg the question as to why they are kept in such a position of unquestionable authority in the first place? Sure moving the Sun and Moon is a decent reason, but then there is also about Celestia having defeated the likes of Discord, Tirek, and Sombra in the past and we do not get any chance to see what caused such a battle-hardened Warrior Princess to step down like she had that would serve to justify that passivity.
Was it because of the power going to her head like some sort of God Complex? Is it because she had turned her blades against her own sister that drove Luna away? Or is that Crown actually a cursed item designed to overwrite the wearers’ personality to make them Vow Renouncing War? We do not know, and in that not knowing; it unfortunately leaves room for multiple interpretations that ask even more questions regarding Celestia that are again not bothered to be answered or clarified even to the Series Finale.
And love necroposting.
I had written that post more than a year ago, and I did not want to overbloat the comment section with one super-massive comment when I had already made a similar discussion already.

It’s less that Celestia wanted to rule, and rather more of her wanting to shape the future even further when she planned to step down. When she had selected Twilight Sparkle; she had unknowingly pulled off the same sort of mistake that Urgence Evergreen from Adventure Time had created in his own apprentice by refusing to teach his disciple in the field of Magic that he was shaping the young dinosaur to fulfill, and at the critical moment when Gunther was needed most to defeat a great calamity to save their world which Urgence said could only be powered by an individuals’ greatest wish: all Gunther did with that power was become what he had thought Urgence was as a great Wizard, only it was a twisted mirror of what the dinosaur thought he had perceived Urgence as: a frost sorcerer that constantly slung frost spells all the time and screamed one particularly tragic reprimand that his master kept telling him all his life: “Gunther No!”
Much like with Urgence, Celestia is also guilty of withholding information and holding Twilight back in fields that she had hoped to have the mare exceed her in. Celestia made the tragic misstep of forbidding her previous apprentice from accessing greater powers on her own that would have naturally seen Sunset transform into an Alicorn had she been allowed to continue. However after forbidding her student access to this knowledge and seeing Sunset run away, she instead turned her attention to a replacement: one that would have no recalcitrance to authority that would never try to talk back to her in any way. But in doing so, Celestia had lain the foundation for Equestria’s demise at the very beginning due to the simple fact that while Twilight would never disobey her; she will never criticize or contradict her in any respect: less of an individual and more of a smaller twisted mirror of herself. No more is this made apparent than in three separate instances:
Where Celestia had voiced her previous concerns over Twilight and held her back thinking that she would not be ready; having already scouted out the other members of The Mane Six and had sent Twilight to Ponyville at the very last minute instead of having her go out and make friends with them entire months if not years earlier. It had stunted Twilights’ emotional growth by having Twilight constantly at her side which was slowly broken away as the series carried on for two seasons.
When Celestia had transformed Twilight into a Princess after completing a spell, but at the same time offer her no such guidance or even having Luna or Cadence go down to offer their own insights into Twilights’ new position as Nobility, having her flounder with half-doubts for months if not a full year trying to figure out what she is supposed to be. Then offer a set of very poignant words that would have seemed comforting at the time; only to now take on a more ominous meaning with the mindset of Celestia being a control freak: “You Will Play Your Part”.
And lastly, Celestia and Luna stepping down from power in order to pass on all control over Equestria to Twilight. I believe I had already discussed why this is a terrible decision in itself that had inevitably led to Equestria being plunged into chaos that Gen 5 is now suffering in the aftermath of. Celestia never bothered to have taught Twilight anything at all on how the government should be ran: failing to bring up the existence of the Equestrian Education Association until Season 8, refusing to inform Twilight about the importance of the Nobility before the events of “From Dusk To Dawn” which would inevitably result in many darker members of parliament now seeing Twilight not as a competent leader but as a Mark that can be manipulated to their own ends, and not informing Twilight ahead that she could have easily moved the Governments’ Seat-of-Power to Ponyville instead of just taking up roost in Canterlot (where she is now extremely vulnerable to the manipulations of those very same Nobles)
And on that note, I shall end this paragraph with the same poignant and prophetic words from a man that saw the rise of a tyrant and predicted the aftermath of their envisioned world when that leader fell.

i mean twilight is a student and someone has to take over in her place, sure it makes her more morally grey or anti hero like than the story portrays but shes still ultimately good and i wouldn’t say shes a control freak like she feels she has to be in control. If she did she wouldn’t be trying to have someone else take over.

Twilight Sparkle. All of her actions have been done solely for the benefit of Twilight alone based off of some vague notion of Destiny that Twilight would be responsible for, and has gone to great lengths to ensure that these outcomes will become true no matter who she has to hurt or who gets left behind. Holding back the might of her army, denying anyone else from assisting Twilight Sparkle on tasks or informing them of great harm before it falls…
Really, we could go on-and-on with all of this.

There is a fine line between Trickster Mentor and Control Freak, and based on what we have seen and learned: Celestia is a Control Freak.

In the NMM timeline, it would be better on what if, much to Celestia’s horror, the stars moved on their own to free NMM regardless. As if the stars gained a will of their own upon resonating with Luna’s sorrow/rage/bitterness and moved to eventually free her.

Honestly I feel like this made Luna’s banishment worse since she could have been freed at anytime but destiny apparently had her wait a 1000 years for someone to pop up(Twilight Sparkle).
I bet Harmony even counted on Luna snapping so she could be used as a “starter villain” for that plant’s “chosen one”.

It also messes up NMM’s threat on she couldn’t get out AT ALL would have been stuck up there if Twilight didn’t pop up.
Having the stars bit not being of NMM’s will just messes things up for her.

It just.. doesn’t seem right.

A recent work showcases the duality of Celestias’ manipulations in the way of stripping her 4-year old Alicorn Daughter of her horn and immortality, along with stripping her name from everypony elses memories before banishing her from Canterlot: all because she had a prophecy telling her that if her daughter was pained by magic in her heart: she could turn evil and bring darkness over Equestria…

Turns out a day after Celestia committed the deed (and a day before Luna was scheduled to return), Celestia learned that the prophecy was actually self-fulfilling: because Celestia used the Elements of Harmony against her own daughter and threw out forever. Unwilling to go find her daughter to try and apologize, and too afraid of any potential backlash should the rest of Equestria begin to view Celestia as a cruel tyrant that tortured and tormented her own sister and daughter were they to find out, she simply didn’t raise a hoof and planned to make Twilight Sparkle a princess instead to fill in the hole within Celestias’ heart.

And who was this wayward daughter of Celestia? This lost and forgotten Alicorn?

It was Cozy Glow.

Yeah, or some complained she’s “overrated,” or dislike her because she “doesn’t do anything, but is loved anyway,” and such.
Some were even happy over the Derpy censorship drama, or lack of Derpy appearances in S3, or mocked the “Save Derpy” crowd just to be contrarians.

Similarly, I see people bash Luna for also being “overrated,” or hate her in response to the Celestia-bashing from Luna/Nightmare Moon fans, and such.
