So what you’re saying is they decided to sell out, just like Metallica did in the early 90s. When Peter Gabriel left Genesis and the band sold out, they only contributed to the death of old era prog. Bands like Yes and ELP were already past their prime and King Crimson, the band that invented the genre with their first album, was basically done “forever and ever” (at least that’s what they thought until they returned in the 80s and made pop music, which is actually pretty good).

Bruh… moving towards pop was the remaining 3 members’ collective decision. All of their other projects showed signs of pop songs as well. They were done with the old era prog style when barely half of the band remained, and decided to start something new.

Genesis was good during the early 70s until Phil Collins screwed everything. At least King Crimson (a real prog rock group) never released half a dozen shit pop albums.
