And the reason she is so impulsive and childish was that she never got a lot of lessons we take for granted, due to having a lonely childhood and an overly babying/protective father.
 
Twilight and Spike became the family she really needed to help her become the great pony she became in the end,

I always thought this scene was interesting. Starlight is/was acting a bit impulsive and childish, and that’s really a lot of the reasoning for a lot of what she does. I love how this scene is her literally being childish. I’m glad she had a chance to mature a bit as the show went on.
