Sunset definitely is a princess. There’s so much evidence to support this and it’s wonderful.

In the unofficial official origin story, Sunset sees her future alicorn self in the magic mirror, but her ambition blinds her to the magic of friendship, and she inadvertently denies herself her potential evolution. This is also why certain magicked incarnations bear faux wings. She has always had to ability to become Twilight’s peer, even in Horsemanland where magic is still brand new but gradually understandable, but I’m assuming the writers didn’t have a cohesive way to write in her ascension before the series’ indefinite hiatus. ^_^

I still don’t know what you people are freaking out about. Yeah, they have vaguely similar designs. It’s not an exactly uncommon design, either, and they’re all sufficiently different to not really be “the same.”
