Velveteen is a drama queen in more ways than one. He is known as Velveteeny-weeny to Pinkie, and usually just Velvet or Vel to everypony else. He has picked up quite a few habits from his mom Rarity; he can’t summon a fainting couch, but he can collapse on whatever, or whoever, happens to be nearest to him. Unlike Rarity though, he is most often just doing it because it’s fun, and not because he is actually that upset. In fact, he is well aware that his melodrama can be over-the-top and funny, and is sometimes trying to get a laugh!

He works with Daisy, Lily Valley, and Roseluck in their flower shop when not running Ponyville community theater. He makes beautiful bouquets, even if he does spend way too long on them. Daisy, Lily, and Rose never had kids for a couple reasons, but they just love and spoil him (and his siblings when they come around) like he is their own.

He can occasionally be a little ignorant to when it’s the right time to play it up, or to be serious, which has led to some arguments and hurt feelings. Like Applejack, he can be honest to a fault, coming off as blunt and uncaring of others’ feelings. Being a little obsessive, sometimes he gets hyperfixated on something (learning a part, finding the perfect line for a poem, figuring out why his rose bush is dying, etc), and will neglect his physical well-being in his focus. When this happens his family tries to help him let it go, put it down, take a walk, and relax.

He earned his cutie mark during his first school play. As a little colt, he was very shy, and didn’t often speak his mind. Cheerilee wanted to encourage him out of his shell, and cast him not as the main role, but a supporting role (baby steps). When a costume emergency happened behind the curtain on opening night, he was left on stage alone. Spike, who has been in a similar situation, whispered jokes for him to say while they waited. He was barely able to raise his voice above a whisper, but his family was very supportive, laughing loud and encouraging the rest of the audience to do so. Eventually the staring foal made it on stage and the play continued, with Velveteen saying each of his lines more confident than the last. When it came to his final scene, his character’s death, he really reached his peak, making some of the audience cry. Thankfully, his cutie mark appeared after the curtain went down, and didn’t overshadow the show.

He admires his uncle Spike, not only for helping him when he needed it, but for his confidence in himself and his masculinity; Spike likes ‘girl’ things and ‘boy’ things, and never let anyone make him feel ashamed of it. Velveteen takes after him, never letting anypony get to him for loving make-up and fashion. He loves reading comics with his uncles Spike and Shining Armor, and listening to them and his moms’ dramatic retellings of their many adventures. He plans to write their lives and heroics into a series of plays!

Later in life, he insists that he could never have written/performed any of his plays/parts without his family. Rarity taught him to sew costumes, Rainbow Dash helps with choreographed fight scenes, Applejack taught him to build amazing sets, Fluttershy shows him how to train animals for scenes that need them, Pinkie Pie and Lollipop like making treats and snacks for the audience to have, and of course Twilight helps him with writing and story structure.

That’s all for now! I hope you like my little drama baby!
