That’s been a thing for quite awhile, to be blunt. People just didn’t notice since they were still high on the series being relatively new.
That’s more of a negative for MLP art nowadays than anything else. I browse uploads with no filters and for every 3 pictures that are cute or pretty good there are 7 that’s a creepy fetish of one kind or another. I’ve noticed an uptick in niche fetishes over the past couple of years and they can get a lot more upvotes than well-made landscape art.
Because you sound very much like someone with little experience trying to give insight. And if you think that furry art can be creepy, than never turn off your filters, since they’re more similar to MLP art than you’d want to believe.

Nope. Ferality is a state of mind, not a state of body. Humans can be feral. But that’s how the furry fandom uses that term for image cataloging purposes; their definition is “has four legs.”
In the same vein, “anthro” technically means “resembles a human,” even if only a little bit. But the popular usage is “humanoid body shape & posture.” Includes prehensile digits on the forelimbs.
When arguing semantics, consider both denotation and connotation.
