Hm, I beg to differ slightly (although I’ve got my own headcanon about the Backup Six/Background Student Six).

Citrine Spark would be the prime Twilight Sparkle candidate. I guess she’s the smartest of the group, not to mention the bookhorse. I mean, who else would take a cart to the library?

Her magic shouldn’t be underestimated, thus Element of Magic.

Brash as Dash, that’s Auburn Vision. But he’s also loyal to his friends, whatever may come. Element of Loyalty.

Pinkie Pie’s part of the fun-loving, good-hearted cloudcuckoolander would rather fit Huckleberry. Granted, he isn’t as random as Pinkie, but still: Element of Laughter confirmed.

Berry Blend would be Applejack’s counterpart. The straight-forward, no-nonsense earth pony mare who says what she thinks, hence Element of Honesty. Fun fact: She’d have another earth pony to figuratively headbutt with. Look on the bright side, though: Auburn can’t cheat her by flying.

Fluttershy and Rarity are a bit more difficult.

November Rain seems to be the quiet introvert to me (guess Peppie did more than the first step) who really begins to live if he can play music, not to mention the knack for jazz.

His parallel to Rarity may be less his connection to big cities (he actually wanted to get away from Seaddle) but as of yet untapped and underestimated magical power. Let’s just hope Spring Rain is nothing like Zephyr Breeze and not as bad a cook as Sweetie Belle. I’d say he could be a good Element of Generosity.

Peppermint Goldylinks is the only one of the six showing something like a sense of fashion. See her hair bow. Not to mention she’s cute (although “cute” isn’t exactly the compliment Rarity wants to hear about herself). On the other hoof, she’s terrific with animals to the point where skunks trust her and let her handle them right away. She’d be an ideal Element of Kindness.
