As I’ve said before, I love how cute Spike and Rarity are together! It’s also one of the few pairings that’s legitimately close to being canon! =] It’s why I like it because the fact that Spike’s crush can be so sweet and we’ve seen how affectionately and sweet Rarity is with him, especially after “Secret of My Excess” and his sweet gift of the Fire Ruby.

There was no need for Spike to be a distracted clutz in the first place. Its not like he hasn’t had some alone time with Rarity before like aDaPS. They could have used a different reason for Rarity to give Spike back to Twilight. They could have even made Rarity realize that Twilight needs an assistant more than she does.
 
All I understand is by swapping out Rarity for AJ in SayS means we lost a potential Rarity episode for S3 and lost the Spike and Rarity episode that appears at least once every season.

I gotta ask, when has she been shown annoyed/irritated with Spike’s affection for her? She was kind of short with him in ‘Green Isn’t Your Color’, but that was more do to her being nervous, and she waved him away in ‘Party of One’ because he smelled like garbage, but other than that nothing comes to mind.

Because while Rarity likes Spike, she obviously can’t tolerate him being a bumbling idiot around her without resorting to being mean enough that the writers didn’t want to paint her in a bad way and swapped her for AJ. Just because she likes him well enough as a friend, she can only take so much of his crushing and fawning on her before she finds it irritating and/or awkward (we’ve seen it in the cartoon, more than once), which is why taking moments like these with some cute platonic affection from her end as proof of “shipping” between them is just delusional. He has a puppy-love crush on her, she likes and cares about him very much as a friend and a little brother but there’s never been any reason to interpret events between them as more than that… evidence seems to suggest the opposite actually.

I wonder if its really true that they swapped Rarity for AJ in SayS because she was written too mean. Why didn’t they just re-write her to be nice to Spike? She’s been nice to him before.

It is just pure sweetness seeing these moments with Spike and Rarity.

I consistently find myself just watching the first five minutes and last four minutes of “Secret of My Excess” whenever it is on just so that I can enjoy these wonderful CANON shipping moments between these two.
